I was hoping for the flavor experience of the Eugene, Oregon back in the day's Spaghetti Warehouse. Well, sadly it wasn't even close. The servings were smallish for almost $20 per plate. The Manager Brandon was super nice. He did offer to give us the Garlic Cheese Bread for free. This came about because the server had no clue how the app worked. She also kept saying if I downloaded the app longer than 24 hours ago, then the Garlic Cheese Bread is free, but that she didn't know how the app truly worked. Since she didn't have a clue, she went & got the Manager, Brandon. He looked at my phone & repeated what she said, about the 24 hour rule. I explained that I had downloaded the app in January & that this was my first visit. He said he wasnt sure then why the downloaded app wasn't allowing me to see the first reward of free Garlic Cheese Bread, so he gave it to us for free. I noticed as we sat, that a piece of my silverware; a spoon, had some dried food schmootz on it, so I set it to the side, yuckie. The Garlic Cheese Bread came with Marinara sauce. I normally hate Marinara sauce, but this was super nice, very fresh & tomatoey, instead of heavy on the Italian spices, which for me is a total turn off, when the spices override the flavor. The Marinara sauce paired very well with the Garlic Cheese Bread & the amount of pieces was a good amount. Our Salads were literally drenched & floating in water, what in the world is that about? Our server was not very adept, quite forgetful, spaced out & not observant. We were not impressed with her skills, but she had a nice smile & she was pleasant. My dining partner ordered the Meat Lover's Treat & he said he wouldn't order it again. He said there wasn't enough sauce on it & the Spaghetti Noodles & that they were dried out. He said, the Italian Sausage link was good however & so were his 2 Meatballs. I ordered the Manager's Favorite. My half & half choices were Mizithra Cheese with Browned Butter & Rich Meat Sauce. I agree with my dining partner, the Noodles were dried out & the sauce was skimpy. There was a ton of browned butter pooled on the bottom of the dish, underneath my dry noodles but, a very small amount of the Mizithra Cheese was grated on top. I was truly hoping for the Naked Spaghetti I used to get at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Eugene years ago. It was a large amount of creamy shredded cheese like Monterey Jack, with a bit of browned butter. It was always fantastic & the noodles were never dried out. It was also piping hot, which mine here was not. We had a very hard time getting our servers attention & when we did, she kept forgetting in one minute what she needed to bring us, then she had to go & redo the receipt because we were charged for the Garlic Cheese Bread. The Restaurant itself is beautiful, I loved the decor. Now, in typing this, we sadly have discovered we cannot rack up the points on the app for the money we spent, for the rewards, due to the fact that you're supposed to scan or type in your receipt number into the app to record your purchase & neither of us have the receipt. Had we have had that explained to us by the Manager or the Server, when we both originally asked how the app & rewards program works, we would have kept the receipt & done it the indicated way. We really wanted to try it a 2nd time, but we have decided the drive from Eugene to Corvallis isn't worth it. ...
Read moreAs a kid my family would occasionally go down to the original Old Spaghetti Factory at 1st and Pine in Portland and enjoy the Edwardian period antiques and urban railfan callbacks. Now that I no longer live there, the Corvallis restaurant is the closest, and I keep going to this place and bringing family there when we need a food stop before the final hour drive home.
The food quality is always good and predictable. It's never excellent - while the chicken breast was overcooked and a little tough, yet nicely seasoned, the spaghetti and sauces are always very flavorful and perfectly cooked. There is a lengthy kids menu, as well as inexpensive large carafes of wine for the adults or a wine list if you want something better. Overall everyone comes away pretty pleased.
The long wait times tend to be long but the company training keeps the servers coming around to see what they can do and are generally helpful and accommodating. I've given just 3/5 stars today because my family has two transgender people in it, and the young waiter didn't respect one of them and when we explained his mistake he wouldn't acknowledge it... this was upsetting to us all. We were too tired and hungry to walk out. The rest of the dinner was polite and hit all the expected service notes, but left the issue unresolved.
The atmosphere is great. The beautiful restoration of the former twice relocated Corvallis train station now in a romantic setting at a bend overlooking the Willamette River, many functional and lovingly restored period antiques notably in the waiting area, Tiffany styled stained glass everywhere, and reproduction period benches and tables with jewel tone velvet back cushions.
I'll keep coming back, especially to the Eugene location opening this Fall at Oregon Electric Station building close to home, but I hope the servers get some training for personal rights awareness. If one bad incident is repeated that'll chill my life long appreciation of OSF's aesthetic and admirable family...
Read moreDid not have our reservation. Spilled soup on my sister-in-law, "assumed" we didn't want bread because we ordered bread sticks as an appetizer-we finally got the bread after dinner, did not offer us fresh take home glasses for our Italian cream sodas-I had to ask for them, and nearly forgot to offer us our included desserts-again we had to ask for them. I guess I should not complain, the table next to us got their soups and salads when they were half way through with dinner. It was not busy. I see this as a management failure. The wait staff is poorly trained, and is not aware of the most basic courtesies when stuff goes wrong. E.g., when one spills soup on a customer, it is customary to offer cleaning of the customers cloths and to bring a glass of soda water and clean cloth to help with stain-setting. I know I'm a fat pig that needs to cut back on bread products, but I don't need to be reminded of that fact when I'm the customer. Please don't assume I don't want the delicious bread that is supposed to come with the meal simply because I gluttonously purchased bread sticks. And spare me the humiliation of having to ask for after you have pointed out my folly. The right thing to do is bring the bread with the meal as stated on the menu. The next least-worst thing to do is ASK if the table would like some bread. The restaurant and the waiter both make more money when the table orders extra food, so it's probably not a good idea to embarrass the healthy eater by pointing out how he has already eaten enough. If you want to assume something, assume I want the food for which I paid. That would be a safe assumption. It was disappointing, but not awful, so we will be back assuming that's...
