My husband and I have been there many times in the past. I have been there several more times than he. Each time was wonderful, albeit dinner was always a tad, pricey. However, today (Valentines Day, February 14th, 2016) convinced us to NEVER return and to NEVER recommend it.
We decided to go there for lunch. First, of the two different menus we were given, the prices of the "Starter," edamame, differed in price. I asked if I ordered the edamame, which one would I get? The waitress was confused and told me how it was cooked. When I explained, she said that it would be the higher priced one because they had not updated their menus.
They had no Valentines Day Special and no "lunch" menu. Okay. We decided to order what we wanted, anyway. During the appetizer, soups and salad, the waitress kept trying to take away my salad. I was not finished!
Then, the chef got the dinners confused and gave me shrimp and gave my husband, most of my scallops. I was to have NO shrimp. I ordered a "Land and Sea," which is a New York Strip steak and scallops. My husband ordered their "Marine" meal of shrimp and scallops. He got most of my scallops and I got a goodly, sum of shrimp. Others at the grill ordered the cheapy steak of a "Chef's Choice."
I watched the Chef cut up and cook MY steak and combine it with everybody else's cheapy steak. I was NOT happy. It was over priced and he gave away my steak. The scallops were flavorless (I can do a better job; and I will cook my own steak and scallops in the future, as I am a better cook than that chef). The brown sauce was MOLDY. Can ya say, "M O L D Y?" OMG!!!
We will NEVER, EVER return.
Do NOT waste your money; do not waste your tastebuds. The tidbits of steak of MINE that I did get, was good. The fried rice was good, but not $3.50 MORE for the meal, good. WHAT? No cracked black pepper? For the kind of money we spent on lunch, I expected more than crappy pepper, flavorless food, moldy food and unreasonable service.
You could not GIVE me a free meal there... I won't go. My husband won't go. NEVER, EVER, will we return!!! Go to Hopjacks and order their Tempura Prawns. It's much cheaper and much tastier.
For an over $100 lunch for two people, I expect more. Oh, and only 1 cocktail (for 1 person). ...
Read moreI went there with my family today and I am not happy even after considering the fact that they just opened the place. I'm not happy about both service and the food.
First of all, the service was quite bad. The waitress who served us seldom checked with us. My wife's food came like 50 mins after we placed an order. I would understand it if the place was crowded, but it was not. My wife ordered this dinner special and it was just some stir fried seafood with a bowl of rice with salad and a soup which costed $22. The rice came long before the main dish. When we finished eating, I asked another waitress for a bill and she said, "OK sure, the other waitress will take care of it." I assumed that she would let the other waitress know that we were ready to go, but she did not! So we waited for about 10 mins just for the waitress to come. After we got the bill, she again would not check with us and we waited another 10 mins until she came into the area where I could wave at her to get her attention. Sure, I could have walked to the casher, but I shouldn't have to do that at a place where the food is more expensive than other places, should I?
To make matters worse, none of the appetizer was available according to the waitress. I asked her why, but she couldn't answer it. Even considering the fact that they just opened, I thought they had a poor management team.
We sat at the sushi counter. The sushi guys were not Japanese. Well, that doesn't matter if they serve good sushi. Their sushi was alright, but from a person who grew up with real sushi, it was mediocre. The sushi vinegar was not rice vinegar. The sushi rice was too sweet and mushy. The taste is probably tailored for American people. The last thing the sushi chef should have done was to offer us a free special sushi dish. Yes, he nicely offered us a special sushi dish. When I saw the dish at a glance, it looked delicious, but as it got closer to my eyes, it was deep fried sushi with sour sweet sauce that you would use for egg roll. I'm sorry, but I just cannot accept the fact that they call themselves "Japanese".
The price is pretty high, their service is not so good and the authenticity of their "Japanese" food is in question. I'm giving this place two stars. I will give them another try probably in...
Read moreMy family and I have given this place the benefit of doubt however our last visit was the last straw. 1st...at the start of the pandemic, they charged full price for carryout however but no salad or soup. This stopped us from ordering take-out from them. 2nd...when they did open back up, it was an hour and a half before they closed and the hostess locked the door as we were walking up. Not even acknowledging us. 3rd...we reserved seating for 3 however the hostess only showed 2 and proceeded to scolded us to call the restaurant instead of reserving on the app next time. When we were seated, the entire area was filthy. The gridle was covered in residue and food particles (some of which was caked on from past poor cleanings). The floor was covered in food particles and the hood was dirty as well. When the hostess came to the table, first thing out of he mouth was "I am not your server but..." and never introduced herself however she did take our drink orders and asked about appetizers. She was not personable at all. She brought out the soup and it was like water with oil...no flavor. We added soy sauce to give it taste. After sitting there with soup only (no salad yet), we decided to go to Sapporo's at University Place and had a great experience (as always). Eventhough Mizu is only 5 miles from our home, we gladly will make the 32 mile...
