While this place has good food, they make it a point to charge the most for your order. When my husband orders a sandwich and it sounds good so I follow up by saying " same, just make his a 14", it is not priced as a 14", it is priced as 2-7" because they know its for 2 people.. even though they made it as a 14" and cut it in half. This happens to us every single time we order the same thing. Its $5 more for the same exact sandwich. Why?! Because its for 2 people and not 1? Do they think my husband and I need our sandwiches wrapped seperately. That paper is $5?! When this is brought to the attention of the cashier at check out, she/he simply says, well now you know for next time. Know what? I'm pretty certain I just ordered a 14". But for 2 people so its 2-7". Its the same sandwich. No offer of a price change. Not even once. This is the cause of instant anger and frustration every single time and makes us not want...
Read moreEy! Ah'ya doon? The people behind the counter really need to work on their attitude! They are far too nice for this to be anything to do with New Jersey... For an authentic North Atlantic sub-shop experience: imagine the entire staff ( and the long line behind you) is ready to cuss you out if you don't just pick a number and get it "Mike's way." This is Pittsburgh, so that won't happen, but imagine it--and act accordingly.
Not a cheap lunch, per say, but fast even when line is fairly long (thanks to limited sub options and the muscle memory of Mike's way). I love that they slice the deli meats right in front of you; the way it should be done. The bread is simple but a perfect vehicle for a hoagie. As a former Rochestarian, I love me some DiBella's, but sometimes the crust is too hard for a sub. Not Jersey Mikes'. It's chewy but yeilds to the incisors so as not to smoosh out the meat...
Read moreI work within the restaurant industry and am familiar with QSR and fast casual concepts. At 7pm tonight (and after purchasing 2 subs for a total of $37!) I happened to notice that a total of 7 or 8 employees were working here on a cold, uneventful night in mid-January. 2 employees were semi-cleaning and a group of 5 were behind the counter - only 1 of which was actually working and the other 4 just standing around doing literally nothing but talking or goofing off.
This restaurant is actually OVER-staffed: it shouldn't take 15 minutes to cook 2 subs with 7-8 employees and no other customers. Lots of bread and not enough meet / cheese in ratio overall. Sandwiches (giant) not cut at all either: 1 giant sub instead of 4 sections. Good flavor - I'll maybe try...
