Sonic Drive-In — Restaurant in Crest Hill

This place cannot even get shakes correct. I ordered the largest strawberry shake. After just afew sips, my straw got plugged up and tasted purep peanut butter. I had it was a bit of Strawberry since they put chopped up strawberries in shakes . This was not the case. First of all it did not even taste like strawberry. It was a definite peanut butter taste, not vanilla, but definitely no strawberry flavor. But tasting it was still not the worst thing, but probably saved me as I have an allergy to peanuts. It's mild as long as I don't eat them directly, I'm ok. If other stuff is made in same place and miniscule particles are airborne, I'm ok. I have to have an actual but if whatever I'm alright to. The plug in my straw was solid peanut butter with bits of peanuts. I had to dump the whole thing. Could not risk my throat closing because they cannot handle a simple strawberry shake. When I dumped it out I found more peanut butter and chocolate in the bottom. I'm certain they started to make a shake with peanut butter cups and after dropping some in, did not bother to take it out and just continued making it with the peanut butter and chocolate still in the bottom. I'm assuming this is why the flavor was also off. I have a mild sore throat as I did get a tiny bit of peanut butter and nuts in my mouth and I quickly spit it out. When your expecting strawberry and you get a strong peanut butter taste, it kinda throws ya. Being allergic, I definitely was quite concerned. I took some allergy medication and 2 hours later I only have a mild sore throat. Thankfully. I'm so very lucky I caught it, but if my allergy was any worse or perhaps if I was a child wirh this allergy it could of been very, very serious and/or fatal. If you pour the wrong item in, especially one that is such a harmful allergen, trash the cup and start again. 15-20¢ for a cup is not worth someone's health or life! Get it together Sonic. Higher some people with a little higher intelligence. It also took them 5 minutes to make the shakes and had we not paid would of left, because they didn't inform us ever if what was taking so long. I had and they said they had to wait on the machine to freeze the ice cream. I saw the female working on them wiping down and cleaning the counter and stuff without waking her hands before continuing. I recall it now, but we were talking and it didn't sink in til later because I was tired also. And still am thanks to Benedryl. So if this sounds weird, sorry. I'm going back to sleep. If I could rate lower then one star I would. First off they were out of their shark week drink which I thought was odd since it’s advertised every where. I just opted to not eat instead and didn’t think much about it. My boyfriend and friends however still ordered. My boyfriend got his food maybe after like 10-15 minutes. My friends however did not receive their food in a timely manner. We waited over 45 minutes for our friends food which was way too long for fast food that’s just made in a fryer. Not a huge deal though we just wanted our money back to go somewhere else to eat at a decent time after waiting for almost an hour we were getting pretty hungry. The only reason I am writing this review is because of the managers attitude. Or at least I think she was a manager she never actually greeted us just started yelling. We asked for our money back and instead of apologizing which is fairly normal for restaurant staff to do she just said well we are busy don’t you see the line of cars. ( the cars came all after we ordered we were there before anyone else). She was also very combative when we pointed out that we were there before the line started to get crazy. We would not have cared about the extreme wait enough to write a review that’s life sometimes but being inconvenienced and then yelled at for something we were very accommodating on is unacceptable. This location is always out of stock on items like waffle cones. A few times, my family members have gotten sick eating their hot dogs. We have tried it many times as we live nearby and sonic has a pretty big menu. I enjoy the chili cheese coney and the chili cheese tots. I also love a good ice cream slush. I used to love their banana cream pie shake, but that's been long gone. I haven't seen the smores blast in years either. They discontinued the delicious hot cookies served with the ice cream. Tonight we went to get two blasts. When we put our spoons in, we realized all they did was top ours with a sprinkle of cookie dough and oreos. Literally a sprinkle. So, in reality we paid 12 dollars for mediocre soft serve vanilla instead of oreo and cookie dough blasts. I placed the red call button and nobody ever responded or came back . I called corporate to just notify them of this location's inconsistencies and to my surprise a really nice representative answered. He wasn't able to refund me in general or provide me 2 free blasts but offered 2 free cheeseburgers. We won't be going back but he was apologetic and nice.
