I visited this location while on a work trip and was disappointed in my experience. I chose to go to Marlow's because they had an appetizing menu and was near the hotel my colleague and I was staying in. Upon arrival my colleague was told that the wait would be 30 minutes. After waiting almost an hour, we noticed that other patrons who were waiting before and after us had been seated and others had left. My colleague went to the host to understand the delay. We were then informed that the manager had told the host not to sit anyone else. Oddly, we were the only ones not seated and there were at least 8 open tables at the time. My colleague asked for clarity on why and the host just kept repeating that he was told not to sit anyone else. It was in this moment that I realized, no one in the establishment, aside from the host at the time was a person of color. It was becoming evident why we were not being seated. After back and forth, we had finally been told our table was ready. We walked in and was told we were going to be seated outside (although we preferred a indoor seat). The service was not the best as we were asked multiple times by the server if it would be one check or two. Repeatedly, we told her one. I had become uncomfortable as it was evident we were not wanted (I mean, I was told not to be seated and then seated outside near the exit door). The server returned with the check rather quickly, before we had finished eating. In her attempt to had my colleague the check, I handed her the credit card. Her face was in utter confusion to how my Caucasian colleague was not footing the bill. I tipped the waitress simply because, I wanted her to see that we were worth better service than the gratuity I provided with hopes that she would be different in her judgement. I could not confirm if the food was great as my experience was underwhelming. I wish I could recommend Marlow's. Unfortunately, I cannot.
I truly hope that this restaurant work on being more inclusive of how they provide service to their patrons regardless of race as I wanted a...
Read moreWe usually enjoy Marlow’s (we eat at one pretty often), but this time we came to this location instead of the usual ones we got to, and it was super disappointing. The service was poor —our small table became extremely cluttered because our server never cleared any dirty plates or glasses, even after acknowledging how crowded it was. At one point, she even asked me to grab something from her because there was no room for her to set it down (since they were just letting things collect on the table).
The food also missed the mark. The hummus always comes with olive oil and toasted pine nuts but arrived without either. When we asked for a side of the pine nuts to just put it on ourselves, they gave us raw ones, which have a completely different taste and texture. They taste like cardboard if not toasted. The pita is supposed to be seasoned/herbed but wasn’t, and each piece was either stale or soggy. A simple side of celery took 10 minutes to arrive. The fries were burnt, unseasoned, and tasted like they were cooked in old oil/a dirty fruer. We requested new ones since they were inedible but the replacement batch was the same.
Dessert service was also strange and just made no sense —we ordered the coffee butter cake and asked for it to come with vanilla ice cream, but they brought the ice cream out first, leaving it to melt while we waited another 10 minutes for the cake.
I’m not sure if our server was new/inexperienced or just didn’t care, but both the service and food quality were far below Marlow’s usual standards. I’m not sure if this was just an off night for this location but we’re definitely going to stick to our usual locations from now on. It really sucks to pay so much money for such poor service and poor quality food you barely...
Read moreWe went to Marlow's for Happy hour last Friday with our adult daughter. When we got there the hostess didn't have the Happy Hour menu and told us to ask our server. We did and despite being a new guy there he returned with said menu. We looked at it and the only cocktails both me and my daughter saw were at the top of the menu. So when our server returned we said we wanted to order 2 each to try them as Happy Hour had about 20 minutes to go at that time. The server took the order & never said a word. The drinks took forever and we had to ask where they were after over 20 minutes of waiting. We got the drinks and food as well as Happy Hour apps from the Happy Hour menu. When I asked for the bill I scanned it quickly and it seemed a little high but we needed to go home. It wasn't until the next day I looked it over and saw that the cocktails were all rung up as full price?? So I called Marlow's and a woman explained that those are the Summer special cocktails and not Happy Hour cocktails. My question then is why are they put on the Happy Hour menu and where were the other Happy Hour cocktails, as we did not see them and the menu was small and only one side. I think that if our waiter had not been new maybe they would have said we didn't need to order two regular cocktails each before the end of Happy Hour as the price will not change!!! I feel annoyed and conned/duped by Marlows. I went back there reluctantly as last time the fish tacos were very fishy and not great but now I feel like it's 2 strikes and I'm out. Next time I will take my Happy Hour to another place that actually has a Happy Hour menu that is...
