Is it possible to give 6 stars? 10? There is so much here to love. I'm really new to the area, and just signed up for a gym nearby, so I was looking for a place to stop, get some coffee, get some bearings and watch the rain. Frankly, wasn't expecting much, just some coffee and a snack. What I got was a dark roast made by someone who cared about the quality of my drink, and was attentive and kind. I walked over to their food display and found a good number of things that piqued my interest, including a vegetable quiche. I asked the woman at the front if there were any mushrooms in there (being allergic) and she said "Sometimes! Are mushrooms a problem?" and when I expressed that they were, she quickly checked the invoice they'd received to read off the ingredients to me. One of the baristas made a joke about a flakey, buttery crust, and (I know this is small, but it meant a lot) they made sure I was in on the joke, which was a reference to a commercial. I decided against the quiche despite it not having mushrooms, and instead went with a cinnamon roll and a chocolate croissant, all while having a delightful conversation. Both were amazing, and after finishing my coffee, I went back for an iced mocha and a butter croissant, which were equally cared for and equally incredible. While I was there, the staff was familial and amicable with both each other and the customers, and offered a woman a piece of cardboard to help her get out to her car a bit drier than she would otherwise. When I finally left (only because my phone battery was dying) they said good bye to me as I left and said that it was nice to meet me. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I'll be returning to this place, and will certainly be telling the (limited number of people I know here) about this location...
Read moreThis is only the second Philz Coffee I've been to (the other one was in Fremont). J came in on a Tuesday around 7 or 8 pm and there were about a dozen other customers, but nothing crazy. I came here for a snack and to get some writing done, so I won't be reviewing the coffee, just the place itself. Good news: the wi-fi connection is strong with this one. The employees are chill and didn't give me any attitude, which is always a bit of a risk with hipster-centered coffee places. The food options are limited and pricier than you might think, i.e. I paid $8 for a sandwich I could've made with two slices of bread, some deli meat and cheese and lettuce and mayo, but I paid for it because my fridge at home was (and is!) basically devoid of real food. At least it was tasty - in my personal opinion, it was better than Whole Foods packaged sandwiches (and I should know because I work there...). I saw some comfier looking chairs and a small sofa in the back, but they were all occupied so I sat on a hardwood chair. There was an outlet next to most seats, which is something I look for at coffee shops. The lighting was dim, but maybe it's intended to create a hip ambience? My overall experience was positive; I'd come here again to work or hang out and get coffee, but I'd probably eat beforehand to avoid the $8...
Read moreThis one star is for one of their staff with purple hair. I ordered a coffee via the app, and according to the app, the coffee is ready in 20 minutes. So I was there on time and came into the store when the app shows the coffee was ready. The first moment i came in, the purple hair staff asked me since i did not wear a mask(btw there are also customers sit in store with no mask), even though i have said nothing, I just want to tell her that i will pick up the order and leave, won't cost 5 seconds. She just asked me out, then i told her I'm just pick up my order, she ignored me. So I thought, ok, maybe my coffee is not ready, so i waited outside for another five minutes. Then i came back again to pick my order, she is so rude to me and impatient asked what's my name. after i told her, she just told me not ready. the male staff is nice, he offered me he can give me a mask and he brought my coffee out after coffee was ready.(the coffee late for 15 minutes when the app told me the coffee is ready to pick up) I think the female staff with purple hair should learn how to talk to people, i'm not begging for her to make coffee for me. I know her name but i won't post...
