My conclusion from multiple visits: The bipolar 5 stars and 1 stars in online reviews persistently from many people indicate a flaw of quality inconsistency and business model. As a newer establishment trying to gain market share, they work hard and shuffle new hires quite often. Their main issue is that their menu is too big & complex, the root cause of many of their problems in food and service, which caused inconsistency. What's simple is easy to understand and easy to enforce. The opposite is idealist but hard to enforce consistency. If their goal is franchise, like a restaurant version of Miniso, they need to eliminate at least 80% items from the menu. Focus on your bestselling items, and it will be easier for the kitchen, the procurement, the severs, and even the customers. In America, you can't scale a restaurant business well by having an overly complex menu. The majority here value consistency over perfection or the abundance of food choices. That said, this is a much better store than Fashion Wok in Sunnyvale.
An interesting twist 10/20: Despite the drama earlier, when I pointed out that there was indeed no 5 person party coming in to counter her claim once the waitress seemed to have calmed down, she became hospitable again and provided us overall OK service at this quick-to-eat establishment. Both sides seemed to happy.
10/20 update: Initially I left them a 5 star update for our previous visit, but the same waitress whom we left our previous 1 star update for tried to put us at the least comfortable table by dishonestly telling us that a table near us was reserved for 5 people at 10pm, a complete lie, when the place was half empty. We asked for being seated further inside because it's getting cold near the door. Instead, the same waitress told us that her other waitress was sick and could not carry a dish far. Once I pointed out the facts that: 1. Other customers already sit way farther than our preferred table, and she treated us differently 2. If she or her coworker were really ill like she said, then she shouldn't be working as headache and stomachache can mean food borne illness and contagious. She became ultra angry and started to spit at me with her finger pointed at me.
It was also the same server who hurried us to leave and refused to get a bowl of edible rice. Her behaviors today were clear retaliation for our previous encounters, so dishonest and rude.
Home Eat needs education regarding food service safety, instead of blaming customers for sitting 1 yard farther while others sat way farther from the kitchen.
An update they deserve (afternoon of 10/20): This is the best Home Eat location in the Bay Area by far. If you work so hard to get it, it's hard not to succeed. Keep up the good work! P.S. The rice is much more edible these days. Small details make big differences in this field.
Update on our 2nd visit: I can now see why this place seems to be getting bipolar 5 star and 1 star reviews. Today we went during busy hours, and the add-on rice was so hard, clearly undercooked and short of water, almost inedible. The server was complacent and did not serve, other than putting in our rice order. We waited for more than 10 minutes for a tiny bowl of added rice, hardly edible. The food runner and busser were more attentive and deserve more credit than the server. The server hurried us to leave when we were finishing up our water/tea after our meal. She said there were people waiting in line, but we saw no line as we walked out, and there were other tables empty and available. Thus the service star was down from 4 to 1. It's not like people have no better places to go just because it's less expensive there.
Here's my review after the first visit:
For the price the food is excellent. The rice ala carte portion is a bit small, but the dishes are decent size. The atmosphere is amazing even during late evening. Although it's a bit far for people who don't live in Cupertino it is still nice to have a good casual dining place open late. The bathroom...

QUICK TEA SPILL: 真香警告 (Things that SLAY): 辣子鸡 so good it had me speaking in tongues, 姐妹们! Prices cheaper than my ex's promises QR code ordering means 懒宝宝 can avoid all human contact Efficiency that moves faster than gossip in a WeChat group
雷点 (Girl, No): 酸辣汤 bland as a LinkedIn profile Some dishes oilier than my face at 超市 Black vinegar pulled a 人间蒸发 Condiment station needs a glow-up, 宝贝~
FULL REVIEW: Listen up, my culinary 仙女们! Your girl just floated into the newest hot spot that's got Cupertino in a chokehold, and 老娘 is here to tell you EVERYTHING!
First up, no waiting in line like it's 奶茶 happy hour - we walked right in! The place is HUGE, 姐妹们, serving multiple dining room realness that's giving me "Chinese restaurant meets Silicon Valley efficiency" fantasy, 绝了!
Now, 宝贝们, let's discuss the star of this show - that 辣子鸡! 天呐! The crunch was louder than my mom asking about my marriage prospects! Those chilies are spicier than WeChat drama, but even my 娇气 self could handle it by dodging them like I dodge relatives during CNY. 爆好吃, period!
The supporting cast? That 豆角茄子 (String Beans & Eggplant) was serving vegetable realness, even if it was oilier than my forehead during hotpot season (老娘知道). The 提督红烧肉 (Tidu Braised Pork) came through with that lotus root cut prettier than my filtered selfies, but we were too full to fully appreciate its 绝绝子 moment.
Time for some 真心话: The 酸辣汤 was giving "leftover bubble tea" energy - flavorless and disappointing until we added enough vinegar to drown my dating history. And speaking of vinegar - where is the 黑醋 for these dumplings? The sauce selection is more basic than my ex's personality - functional but needs work, 救命!
But here's the gag, 姐妹们 - the prices! Your girl's wallet didn't have to go into therapy after this meal. The QR code ordering system? Technology 仙女! No more awkward "能再说一遍吗" moments that make me want to 钻地缝!
最后, Home Eat is serving Chinese cuisine realness with a side of efficiency! It may not be perfect, but neither was my first attempt at winged eyeliner, and look at me now! Four and a half stars out of five - and that's the 茶, no brown sugar needed!
小贴士 (Pro Tips): Order the 辣子鸡 or never speak to me again Bring your own black vinegar if you're a dumpling queen Come hungry, leave with your wallet still intact Perfect for group dinners when you're tired of hearing "随便"
走起, 宝贝们! Time to get your taste buds SNATCHED at Home...
