Warning to those with peanut allergy - The store website says black sesame filling for taiyaki does not have peanuts, but it actually does at the Cupertino site. I have a peanut allergy, and after I ate the taiyaki with black sesame filling, I had a reaction that involved chest tightness, nausea, and stomach pain.
The website needs to be updated to indicate that the black sesame filling has peanuts!
I have eaten other black sesame desserts (that do not have peanuts) from other stores without issues.
Update: Contacted corporate, and the company gave a poor excuse saying, "Our website and in store allergen information board does indicate that our ingredients may be processed in facilities that handle milk, soy, wheat, eggs, and nuts. Our stores use a variety of ingredients, some of which may contain allergens like peanuts. Due to the nature of food preparation and handling, there is always a risk of cross-contamination, even with procedures in place to minimize that risk." Various other stores such as Hershey's, Salt and Straw, and Baskin Robbins include these statements, but their procedures to prevent cross-contamination are superior. I have never had an issue with their products. Corporate didn't even offer any sort of compensation or say they will update the website to reflect peanuts in sesame filling. This store is just another company who only cares about the amount of money in their pockets. Hopefully, they...

Located in the heart of Cupertino Main Street, SomiSomi is a serves up a sweet treat in about 10 minutes or less (minus time you may or may not spend waiting in a line).
When I'm craving some ice cream, SomiSomi has been one of my go-tos in the south Bay Area. This little dessert shop serves up their classic Ah-Boong and a selection of taiyakis. You can find their weekly swirl flavors either on their Instagram or Facebook.
The ordering process is pretty straight forward, select how you want your ice cream- in an Ah-Boong or a cup. Then select the filling for your Ah-Boong. Easy! After that, you'll pay for your selections. Once they've prepared your ice cream, you have the option of adding a macaron or a strawberry. They also have a small selection of topping, which includes my favorite oreo crumbs.
My personal favorite is their milk flavor (and whatever combination it may come with) in cup, topped with an upside-down Ah-Boong filled with custard. Last but not least, don't overlook their taiyakis! If you're craving something savory to go with your ice cream, their cheese taiyakis is...
Read moreI've wanted to try SomiSomi for some time now and it was just as good as advertised!
For the soft-serve, you can opt to have it just as a cup (no fish), in the fish, or to have the fish as a party hat. With the hot weather, a party hat was the funnest way to go. They offer only preset swirl flavors based on the week but this week's specials were right up my alley with ube/matcha winning my heart. Black sesame/milk was the other option which I'm sure would have been equally good.
For the fish, you get to choose a spread on the inside. I went with traditional red bean and really enjoyed it! Several friends went with custard and another with Nutella, we all enjoyed our choices very much!
To top it off, we also ordered a couple taiyaki. One Oreo and one taro. The Oreo one was fun with a double stuffed Oreo baked right in like a Japanese style deep fried Oreo! The taro one was on the sweet side with the filling being more like halaya than just taro. It was still yummy but a little sweet for me. Overall, the fish texture was fun. The outside is super crisp like a delicious waffle but nice and chewy inside with the mochi.
Definitely would welcome many a return trip when I'm...
