Finally Sul & Beans in the Bay Area!! I've always wanted one nearby, since it was always so hyped from SoCal. I've had Sul & Beans in Los Angeles, and it was really good!
《Parking》 There isn't a lot of parking here...unless you're down for a walk then you can park in the garage by Lazy Dog.
《Wait Time》 Please be aware that you will not be served (cannot order) unless you find yourselves a table FIRST. Though, this doesn't apply to ordering for takeout. (Plus you pay EXTRA for takeout, probably because of the to-go bag they give you)
I came here on a Wednesday night, assuming it wouldn't be AS packed as it would be on the weekend. It was still pretty busy, all the tables were taken and couple of people were ready to get the next available table so they could order. I didn't know as it was my first time, so when I tried to order the cashier asked if I had a table. I said, no..? So, I had to wait nearby people who were almost done or done eating. It felt so odd, kinda weird to just watch people finish their dessert. It also felt like I'm competing with other people to get the next available table!! I managed to get a table within 20mins of watching. And RE-enter the long line to order. It took around 45mins to get my bingsoo, but I've had friends tell me that they've waited OVER an hour to receive their food.
《Food》 I ordered the Mango Bingsoo, it was on the more pricer side compared to other bingsoos listed. The mangos were really good! The shaved ice underneath tasted really milky and creamy, it was actually pretty good imo. They also give you a small cup of condense milk to pour over as well! I really wanted to try the strawberry milk but it was $7... I honestly didn't want to pay that much for a small bottle. I could probably make it at home too!! I'd rather pay around that price for two medium boba drinks.
I would come again when the hype dies down, but probably won't happen...
Read moreBeen so exited and waited a long time for this place to open and reopened. Not sure if because not any know about their reopening, we came here in a Way afternoon in a warm day, there is surprisingly not line! I was expecting a long line, and joined to their wait list ahead of time. Table was ready by the time we get there. On yelp wait list it asks if you will be arriving in 15 OR 30 min, and you can not join the wailist if you have 7+ people which you will need to see a host.
Getting a table and ordering was smooth. Too bad their screen meun doesn't describe about the details of each shaved ice. I tried their Earl Gray Bingsoo this time, didn't know it doesn't come with red bean and mochi, instead it came with some cream on top, and inside has some Coco power. Overall too sweet for my taste. Didn't finish the whole thing.
The size seems smaller than the one I had in LA? And more expensive here?
We order the Bingsoo with a toast. We saw out Bingsoo was ready at the counter for like 10min, waiting for our toast before they bring it to us. By the time we start eating the bingsoo , it was kind of melted at the bottom. I wish they could time their timing better or bring us the bingsoo once it is ready.
I will not get the Earl Gray next time. The taro is still one of my favorites, it has red bean and mochi on top and some toast coconut around complete the taste and add the crispy layer for the Bingsoo.
We tried the original toast which doesn't have red bean on top. Inside seems to have honey butter and mochi, wish the mochi portion was bigger, it was gone in the first bite, and leaving half of the toast kinda plain....
The bathroom was clean, but no mirror and...
Read moreSul & Beans was what I expected of a bingsoo place, good selection and really nice portion sizes. We ordered 3 for 5 people and it was more than enough to get to try a variety. The bingsoo was not too sweet and the snow ice made from milk was fluffy and nice.
A little disappointed that even for dine-in, the bingsoo came in the plastic containers. We received some metal spoons so I'm not too sure why bowls wouldn't be used again. It was a bit difficult to get a good portion of ice, toppings and sauce when you first start digging in but eventually it got mixed well. We also got plastic spoons and smaller containers for each person to eat out of their individual share while the metal spoons we used for serving only.
Getting the bingsoo was pretty quick, they give you a buzzer when your order is ready. Of the three we tried - mango, strawberry cheesecake, and Oreo - I wished the mangoes were a bit sweeter or gave a bit more sauce, but the strawberry one was very good. Next time I'm in the area I'd like to try one of their toasts as well.
Seating was quite plentiful and most people (at least during my time here) mainly stayed only to eat and were on their way pretty soon after so the turnover for getting a spot to sit down was...
