I usually enjoy dining at Pei Wei but this time I could not even get myself to return the food and order a different dish.
First of all, the Bento box food I ordered came less than luke warm, the brown rice was cold, super dry, hard and so undercooked that not one rice grain had split. Additionally, they were out of the sushi pieces that should have been included with the order. They asked if I wanted to substitute with a tuna maki, so I said sure why not. Had I known it would be unappetising and unhealthy to look at, meaning the tuna pieces were greyish without a hint of freshness that I have come to expect from PeiWei restaurants, I would have rather have French fries! But who orders potatoes at a Chinese restaurant? That is not what we were here for.. But you know what? Plain French fries would have been 100% better than the food they served.
Now we come to the main entree, Mongolian Beef, the very reason why I am spurred to expressing my opinion about this particular PeiWei located on the feeder of 290 close to the Grand Parkway.
As you go in to order, on the wall are frames displaying the various types of dishes you can order. To be honest, the selections and photos look very good. I saw a delicious looking, saucy Mongolian Beef bowl and instantly my taste buds said Yes! That's the one. You can imagine how disappointing it was to receive an entree so totally different from what was on the display.
The meat was covered with a dark Red sauce that tasted like sweet teriyaki but salty. Totally not what one would expect from the picture displaying a savory beef dish with almost curry brown sauce.
At this point I don't know if it was truly beef, so I'm just going to say meat because it was so very tough and so very hard to chew. It reminded me of when I have cold leftover food that I try to re-make into different dish.
Out of the whole Bento box, the only thing that tasted okay were the three tiny, unpeeled peanut size pot stickers.
Needless to say, from now on, I beware ordering any "Today's Special" and will not be referring anyone to this particular Pei Wei location.
On a side note. A waiter approached and asked what he can do and offered to replace the order. I thought to myself "Absolutely not!" , but told him "No thank you" He insisted so I said egg rolls and he gave me 8 egg rolls. Nice gesture but the...
Read more2nd review 4/14/2022 I stopped here to grab lunch before I have to pick up my son from school. I ordered the Beef & Broccoli with noodles. I ordered at 1:27 pm. There was only the cook and the young lady in the front. First off they where already behind on orders. As I'm waiting for my food I look up from my phone and see the young lady serving a soup and she turned around and placed the soup on the counter, I'm thinking she's gonna put a lid on it, NO!! She grabs either seasoning or seeds I don't know what it was, but she didn't put gloves on. She didn't even wash her hands when she goes and gives the soup to the customer at the table then she comes back to the front and takes someone's order. 10 mins pass and I'm guessing the manager comes in and he starts helping the cook. At this time they're 4 orders that are just sitting on the counter. Getting cold!! One lady came and grabbed her food because she didn't wanna wait anymore. So the manager asks me what my name is and then he says yours is coming out next. Another 10 mins later I see the manager put my food in the pot then it was ready in 5 mins. When I arrived here to get my son, I have a little picnic going on in my car. I open my food and start stirring my food. The noodles are still together meaning the way they came out of the package is the way he threw them in the pot and added the meat then threw the food in a To Go plate. The noodles were still in a square shape. My meat is not cooked all the way. Beef or no Beef I want my meat cooked. So no more after this!!!! Pei Wei has lost their touch. I had to do my review here because it won't let me review twice. (1st review) Hate to say it but Pew Wei is losing their touch. My meat was burnt and crispy. The rice you can can tell it's old, some of it is hard. I paid $14 with a drink. Seriously not worth it anymore. If I wanted crispy Fajita meat I would of asked my husband to BBQ for me. I haven't been here since they removed the Spicy steak and shrimp from the menu. A lot has changed and not for the Good! Sorry not Sorry Pei Wei you...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible service. I placed an order online on a Sunday evening a little before 7pm. I ordered 2 entrées, nothing special. I get a notification that my order will be ready at 7:13pm. I like to give a little extra time just in case as I have had previous bad experiences with orders here so, I show up around 7:30pm. I checked in at the "To Go" area and am told that "it will be another 15 minutes at least" by the Manager. That puts the order more than 30 minutes past the initial promised time. I look around the restaurant and count 3 tables awaiting food. I asked if she was sure about the wait and she just looked at me and said "at least". I then reminded her of the last time I placed an order. I waited over an hour past the promised order time and was told "just another 10 minutes" five times in a row. The General Manager gave me excuses about a guy with a broken arm and that nobody wants to work on Sundays. I was given almost the same excuse verbatim on the previous visit so, I asked her to cancel my order and process a refund. She told me that she did not now how to process a refund and disappeared. About 5 minutes later, very nice gentleman (Keith), who had been cooking, came to the front and asked what was going on. I filled him in on the situation and he apologized profusely for the terrible management and processed the refund. This is a Management issue at this location that needs to be rectified with staffing changes up top. The Manager was hiding in back as another staff memeber appropriately hadled the situation. It's very unfortunately as I am a fan of the restaurant and would like to continue to do business with them but, will not until there...
