We ate here on a Saturday in November, 2021. Some of the best food and LEAST welcoming and charismatic service I've ever encountered. I certainly expect better when spending about $150 on a casual lunch for two. I did, however, tip her well, and was completely ignored afterward as we finished our last round of drinks.
The server, who I'll decline to name, was effective in taking orders and bringing food, but her personality was so flat that it rendered us both amused and uncomfortable, resulting in mock whispers to each other like "I think she wants us to leave NOW." It's become a running joke in our home. She was clearly more interested in smoking than working. Perhaps she was just having a rough day.
We had been excited about ADE for months, largely due to our Google search for Dallas grilled octopus. When I told the server how long we'd been waiting to finally eat there and how excited we were, she just stared at me. It was a trip. Seriously.
OK, enough of that - time for food and drinks. Both the octopus and meatball starters were spectacular. Transylvania burger and Benny-Houdini were similarly wonderful.
Gunman, Trinity, and Kyoto cocktails were killer.
This is a great place. Since the server didn't spit on us or attempt to inflict any genital mutilation, I'm not gonna dock 'em a star for a mere lack of personality - we were there to eat and drink, not make new friends, and our mission was accomplished.
Hopefully that lone shortcoming will not be a factor when we return, which is absolutely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAlright, buckle up buttercups, because I just wrestled my way through the delightful chaos that is Armoury in Deep Ellum. First off, the service? Impeccable! I ordered a beer that tasted suspiciously like a unicorn's tears mixed with regret, and our waitress swooped in like a caffeinated angel, whisked it away, and replaced it faster than you can say "another round," all with a smile and zero fuss. Bless her heart! Now, let's talk food. Their sandwiches are the unsung heroes of the menu. Seriously, they're like a perfectly constructed edible hug. Get one. Devour it. Thank me later. However, their Hungarian pizzas? Bless their little cheesy hearts, they're... fine. Perfectly acceptable. But if you're expecting a culinary epiphany, maybe stick to the aforementioned sandwich of glory. The patio, though? Now that's where things get weirdly wonderful. It's like someone raided Stanley Kubrick's brain during a particularly intense chess match and decided to build a patio out of the leftover synapses. It's interesting, to say the least, and definitely a conversation starter. The ambiance inside is equally intriguing ā a sort of dimly lit, vaguely European vibe that makes you feel like you should be discussing existentialism over a strong drink. So, in conclusion: go to Armoury. Enjoy the stellar service, worship at the altar of their sandwiches, maybe politely nod at the Hungarian pizzas, and definitely spend some time contemplating the meaning of life on their Kubrick-esque patio. You...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCame to this place with some friends on Tuesday night 10/15 which was not busy at all. I invited some friends here who were from out of town because I previously had a great experience and wanted to share this with them. However, that was far from the case. We sat at the bar top (group of 4 guys), just ordered an 2nd drink and we were speaking Spanish. The male bartender walks over to us and throws napkins at us and makes a racist comment to us about being Hispanic. We tried to ignore him since we were focused on enjoying each others company and thought it was odd that he did this. Next, the blonde female bartender told us we were speaking too loudly (although thereās music blaring and other people were speaking louder). To remain peaceful, we apologized if our volume was too loud and spoke softer. During the middle of our 2nd drink, she and the male bartender walk over to us and tell us they are kicking us out. This is suppose to be an establishment that is respectful to their customers & provides quality service however, these 2 extremely rude and racist employees have ruined our experience. Although the drinks are typically great quality, the disrespect was unbearable. I suggest they get some lessons on how to be polite to customers before they run everyone off. DO NOT go into this establishment as they treat their customers unfairly, disrespectfully,...
