Great atmosphere and vibe. Outdoor seating area is fantastic. Enjoyed sitting here right around sunset. Didn't get cold but they also turned on an outdoor heater which made the temperature comfortable after sunset.
Setter was very friendly. Server was also very friendly and kind. Very positive and a sincere smile & demeanor.
When we were asked if we'd like to order appetizers - we selected two (Bao & golden wontons). However, we were brought a wonton soup, alongside the Bao. I saw the dish being brought to 4 tables before arriving at ours - which was confusing but then we realized that the server had entered the wrong wonton dish. They apologized and we proceeded to eat our pork belly bao. We were hungry so there were no pictures taken as we had eaten them immediately - however we noticed the dish was almost cold. We asked the server if the Bao was generally room temperature, and they assured us that it was supposed to be warm so they said that we would receive a complimentary Bao immediately so we could experience it as intended. We never received the complimentary bao unfortunately. The Golden wontons were great. Delicious, warm, crispy, and flavorful.
We ordered the Yaki Udon noodle bowl. It tasted alright but seemed very burnt/overly smokey in taste. Almost like a strong freezer burn smell/taste.
We didn't get a bill, but were just brought the machine to pay immediately. I asked for a receipt. After paying and receiving a reciept 2 minutes later, I saw that the original wonton soup had been added to our bill - despite not ordering it or eating it. And we also found out that the other party that was at our table was charged for half of that menu item as well as us. So after a complicated refund procedure, and having to personally transfer money to the other party from my chequing account, we were all sorted out.
The staff were friendly and very apologetic, and mentioned that they "thought the price was sort of high" after the fact. However, they had made no effort to review the bill to ensure that it was accurate before the payment machine was presented to us (again, no bill was presented to us to personally review either). And that caused me to be away from the table for 5-10 minutes as I tried to get it sorted and I missed a portion of good conversation with friends that we only had a limited amount of time to visit with.
I would like to possibly try another location in the future as I had high hopes for a great...
Read more4.5 stars for the food. I'm taking away 1.5 stars because the service was downright rude at times during our whole encounter, especially for a half empty restaurant. We got here around 4 pm or so. Half the restaurant was empty. We told two different people (hostesses) that we needed a table for 2 people. When we were finally seated, no server showed up for a while. My friend has been here before and I had a good idea of what I wanted so deciding our order didn't take very long. After a while, when the server finally showed up, we asked for water and stated that we were ready to order but please could we get things quickly since we had been waiting a while. The server basically sneered at us, turned around to another server and told them to take over. The second server that we gave our order to, got it wrong so we didn't even get the right food to start with. We didn't get the signature Spice Tray until the very end when we had almost finished eating. Even towards the end, it took them a while to get the check and we had to ask at least 3 different people for boxes (and the right type of boxes for the spices) for our leftovers. My friend swears this was not her previous experience, but it did take away from the experience.
Onto the more exciting things: the food was delicious overall. We ordered the CKT, the pork dumplings, the Seoul Hot Chicken Baos, the Roti Canai, and their Signature Spice Tray. The best of the lot was the Roti Canai because it is basically a roti with the curry from a homemade Indian chicken curry. The second best was the CKT because it reminded me of the CKT I had in Singapore, and brought back some amazing memories! The Baos were pretty tasty but not super hot. The pork dumplings were decent but probably our least favorite of the lot. The signature Spice tray was excellent. I loved all the spices. I took all of them home and whatever we didn't finish with the food, I licked off by itself.
The ambiance fits an upscale hawker hall. I've been to some in Singapore and this place reminded me of similar Hawker halls just without the chaos. The bathrooms are quite fun so make sure to take a trip. Prices are pretty reasonable by Dallas standards. Parking is an issue so you will have to drive around to find street parking or there is a paid parking lot few blocks away.
I would love to come back for the food. I sorely hope the service...
Read moreIt's a shame that the service is so bad here, because the food is phenomenal. My boyfriend and I walked in and sat at the bar on a Saturday around 4PM- the place was pretty dead, maybe (MAYBE) 4 tables filled inside, plus one table outside. The bartender came, served us waters, then said she'd be right with us. We'd decided on everything we wanted in the 10 or 15 minutes it took for her to come back, but she didn't repeat the order and was apparently confused that he and I wanted two of the same bowl plus the app, so we only got one bowl of food. After waiting for the bartender to come back behind the bar (half of that one bowl of food already gone), we were able to confirm that she somehow misunderstood me ordering the duck curry, and my boyfriend saying, "I want the same thing, but can you add a duck leg?" My boyfriend and I ate our meals at completely separate times- his was finished prior to mine arriving, and when mine finally arrived, I got to finish it completely, then waited even longer, before the bartender came back. My boyfriend was going to order another drink, but there seemed to only be one person taking any orders behind the bar (two other people were delivering already ordered food and drinks but not acknowledging customers otherwise), and she was behind the bar maybe 20% of the time we were there. The menu and food quality are just on a completely different level than the people attending customers and that's really unfortunate. If you're going to eat here, do yourself a favor and get takeout- order online so your order doesn't get messed up.
Update: although I got a response to my review here, when I'd emailed the address left here, I received no response. Don't expect the bad service from a prior visit to be corrected. We actually did come back after this visit, but no matter when you go, the service is...
