This was my second visit to Dallas, TX as I was there for my Master Rug Certification course work.
As a way to celebrate I decided to treat myself to the difficult task in finding a fabulous steak house to dine at. Abacus immediately stuck out - with [genuine] and good reason to!
Let's begin with the staff - our valet was incredibly sweet, not wasting a single moment to promptly, yet gently, open the doors of our vehicle. Politely leading the way to the large abstract and gorgeous entry way doors (unexpectedly yet with a natural flow) the valet made sure to open the doors for myself and my guest. As we did not have reservations and this was more of a 'on the whim treat' there was a short but enjoyable wait time of 15 minutes. Now mind you the restaurant is packed with folks. Heather escorted us to the bar area where we were seated and promptly greeted by a bartender, in the blink of an eye our drinks were served effortlessly and beautifully in two tall and icey glasses.
Not long after being seated we were taken to our table - sweetly enough again Heather, our hostess, pulled the chair out for my guest and even began unfolding our napkins for us! At this point I found it somewhat comical (the level of service and commitment) none the less genuine and done with a smile. Not but a couple minutes later our server Vincent introduced himself and with a charming demeanor began to advise us of what we might find of interest based on our input and queries about the menu. Again, sweet as pie and a complete charmer! Not in the gets-under-your-skin-annoying-way some servers can be, but instead in a well mannered and completely respectful manner. Loved every moment of that experience.
He also was sure to bring us our drinks that we had accidentally forgotten at the bar area - only this time they were completely new, full icey glasses. He was very thorough in explaining and fluidly listing all the components and intricacies of every dish we darted our hungry eyes at.
Once each platter was served we were amazed time and time again - all the way to the end of our dessert selection - fragrant Green Tea and espresso with roasted sugar. Not only was the delivery of the choices on point, timely, and spot on, but each item was decadence of flavor, freshness and a visual spectacle of beauty. The cheese platter in particular was a surprise; my initial thought was how small and light it was. Oh boy was I wrong. Small it may have been, however, packed with flavor, punch, and variety it was NOT short on. DELICIOUS. Next came our risotto and buffalo steak. It was everything Vincent had promised and more. Perfectly done to our desired wellness, dressed up and plated with such care to attention that I could not resist snapping a couple photos and being the envy of my friends back home.
This is the place to be if you want to feel like you are more than just a patron, but instead feel like you are royal and you aren't using common money to pay, but instead pure gold bullion.
The prices are slightly inflated to what you are being served, however, what they lack in sustenance is most certainly made up for in extreme care for detail, attention, and true connectedness.
One of a kind execution by the entire staff. Excellent experience and something to discuss for a long while. It left me with a longing for Texas.
Next time I am in Dallas again - I know for certain I cannot leave until I visit Abacus again.
Thank you for such...
Read moreMy friend and I decided to have our birthday dinner here. Party of essentially 12 people. We made our reservations for 6p. Upon arriving we had a couple of extra guests with us. No problem. The servers we very professional and pleasant and was kind enough to make last minute accommodations for us. Although there wasn't much on the menu to choose from I ordered the char broiled oysters and received them at 7:09pm. I was a bit disappointed with the amount that was on my plate for the price of $15. I was expecting a good amount for that price. Next, it was time to order the entree. So I ordered the pan seared Scottish salmon. After waiting for over an hour I finally received my meal. It looked great. However not everyone in my party received their food the same time as me. As I was observing there were a few messed up hamburgers that couldn't seem to get right until the 3rd attempt. Most if not everyone's food was lukewarm if not cold. Absolutely NOBODY'S food was hot. When I finally got to taste my salmon it was seasoned pretty good. As a host for my dinner party I was VERY disappointed in the level of customer service we received from the manager Robert. It seemed like everything was going great until food got to the kitchen. I noticed over parties who came in after us was not only served but received their food waaay before we received ours. After several failed attempts from other people's order in my party we asked to speak to the manager. He did not seem empathetic about our concerns and our complaints what soever. By this time more time has gone by and no one in my group was able to enjoy their food and let alone not eat cohesively. We expressed our concerned to the manager Robert and instead of apologizing for the errors made in the kitchen he simply says he believes it wasn't a total fail. What kind of manager says that?? At this point as a customer the service quality was getting worse. So then the manager says he will give everyone at our table a discount. At first we was fine with that BUT then we were waiting a long time to get our tickets. Once we got our tickets the orders were all jacked up. Some had someone else's drink on their ticket and we were told someone at our table drinks but they didn't know who so decided to add it on wherever. This was a total disaster and instead of the manager reasoning and owning up the the errors he tells us it wasn't complete fail. I felt he did not care about my group about us as valuable customers.
After continuous going back and forth with the manager he fiercely suggested everyone's tab would be covered and all he asked was that we pay gratuities to the servers. I was totally disappointed in the poor service and lack of hospitality we received given it's reputation. In my opinion I would come here unless you want to waste money on not so good food and customer service. I've received faster and better service at Chills than I did here.
As a paying customer I EXPECT EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE to go along with the over priced food!
DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE TIME AND MONEY TO WASTE!
DO NOT COME HERE IS YOU HAVE MORE THAN A GROUP OF 5. APPARENTLY THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO GET EVERYONE'S MEALS OUT ON TIME HOT FRESH OFF THE GRILL SO EVERYONE CAN EAT AND ENJOY THEIR MEALS AT THE SAME TIME.
POOR MANAGEMENT ON...
Read moreWent to Jaspers for the Wednesday ladies night special. Arrived early and sat at the bar to wait for the rest of our party to arrive. Service at the bar was great. Drinks were made quickly and tasted great. When we got sat at our table is when the experience took a turn for the worst. When we sat down our waiter brought silverware to the table but did not introduce himself. After this we did not see him for 20+mins. When he finally came to acknowledge our table he says "oh you're having dinner with us this evening" we look baffled because we clearly had menus. He then takes our order and he does not come return to our table for another 30mins. Finally the food runner brings our salad out. Mind you our drink glasses have been empty because our waiter Adam never came back to check on us. 30mins after the salads they finally bring the entrée. The food was delicious (the chef did a great job and was the only one who came over to the table, introduced himself, and showed real empathy) . 25 more minutes elapsed. Our waiter then come to our table to tell us they are out of bread pudding. (We ordered the bread pudding an hour prior with our entrées). Looking around seeing other tables with bread pudding, we were confused. After all the lapses in service we decide to speak with the manager. She did not introduce herself to our table however she did discount our bill. Our waiter Adam then brings our checks (mind you we did not know his name was Adam until one of the people in our party decides to ask him his name.) He then asks "were we going to give them a bad review." In a calm voice, My friend tells him how the service could have been better (mainly by checking and communicating with our table). While telling him this he proceeded to cut her off, get defensive, blame the restaurant and management "for not setting him up for success ". My friend then said okay well I'm not trying to argue with you.. and then gets hostile with her says "you know what, WHATEVER " and then storms off. Overall we were very excited to have a ladies night at Jasper's however we left disappointed, unwelcome and ignored.
UPDATE: Adam the waiter saw my review on yelp and decided to message me on yelp with the words "it doesn't matter, I'm still employed, Hope to NEVER see you again" (see attached photo) Why was this necessary? It's clear he doesn't take feedback well. I've been in the hospitality industry for 8 years. These are not the people that should be serving your food and drinks. Advice to management don't have people working for your establishment that are ready to blame their lapses in service on you to the customers, in addition to being someone who can't take feedback and who clearly is hostile...
