Pho is for Lovers is as beautiful as it's name. The food and service is great. Expect Vietnamese-American fusion rather than authentic Vietnamese which is to be expected for the area that it is in. It is close to a lot of places you will find interesting like Micheal's Art Supply, World Market and Central Market. It is on the corner of Lover's Lane and Lower Greenville. The area is a fantastic place for a real food or shopping adventure.
I had the Beef Pho and my Wife had the Chicken Pho. We also had egg rolls and coconut water.
The Pho was spot on. The beef and broth had an earthy beefy taste and was full of flavor. It was packed with meat and noodles. I was surprised at how much of it I ate. They give you a lot of it and I cannot imagine anyone leaving the table hungry. It could easily feed two people or one and a quarter of me.
The chicken was good but tasted like boiled chicken. That is just fine with pho. Like the beef there was a lot of it. My wife could not even eat half of her bowel so I had plenty to taste.
The egg rolls were some of the best I have had. They were cooked to perfection. Even with the large bowel of pho I really wished I had ordered more egg rolls. They were crunchy on the outside and tender and very flavorful on the inside.
The coconut water was way too sweet. I am use to coconut and water with no sweetener. However I am pretty sure the sweetness was added for the American pallet. They just made it too sweet almost to the point it tasted like coconut syrup. Some people may actually like that. However I just added some water to it and it was fine.
I would highly recommend this place when you are in the area. The location is great, the food is great, the service is great so go by and see...
Read moreIt was a cold day and I wasn't feeling great, so I was craving pho. I found myself in Dallas and saw the zagat awards for Pho is for Lovers and decided to stop in on a Sunday night about 7 pm. The place was packed! All of the tables were full and there was always a line for people ordering. The line went fast and many people were ordering to go. We found one of the last tables.
We ordered two orders of beef pho and waited about 5 minutes for it to be delivered to the table. The pho was $10.50, about $1 or $2 more than I pay in Fort Worth, but the portion size was huge and it seemed to have more meat because of the meatballs. After a couple of spoonfuls, I was already feeling so much better and the food was making me so happy. The broth was savory and had the perfect amount of salt. I added two limes, bean sprouts, and thai basil to it and it made it even better. The meatballs in the pho looked grey and like they would have no flavor, but they were actually so good! You could taste the spices.
We got a to-go container for the food we couldn't finish, which will be the perfect amount for lunch tomorrow! This was the best pho I've had, and if I find myself in Dallas again, I will make an effort to come back. I wholly recommend the beef pho!
Side note: as other people have said, this restaurant is more expensive than others. For example, the Bánh mì is $7.50 here and I've seen it at other places between...
Read moreWell, you’ve been warned! If you value your time and money, skip this place and head to a genuine Vietnamese restaurant instead.
Let’s start with the summer rolls—dry as cardboard! The staff insisted they were made fresh, but I have my doubts. When it comes to pho, I was disappointed to find several questionable pieces of meat. It’s clear that freshness isn’t a priority here. The soup is pre-assembled, so you can’t really evaluate the quality before adding it to the broth.
On a positive note, the broth itself has a lovely flavor, which I appreciated. However, as a southern girl who enjoys some heat in my food, I was surprised to find they charge $0.50 for each container of chili oil. And to top it off, you have to pay upfront, which can lead to unexpected costs by the end of your meal.
The Thai tea was the smallest serving I’ve ever seen, and the pho noodles were a mix of gummy and chewy textures, suggesting a lack of consistency in their freshness. It felt like they were using a combination of fresh and older noodles, which really detracted from the experience.
This is what happens when a delicate cuisine like Vietnamese food gets turned into a franchise. For a truly satisfying meal, I highly recommend visiting the authentic Vietnamese restaurant at 4302 Bryan St. in Dallas, TX 75204. You’ll thank me later!
