I've lived in Victory Park for years and have been to Saint Ann numerous times. My last visit was beyond appalling and I'm hoping this review nudges management to seriously review their service.
I visited with my sister, niece, and nephew. We sat at a table after waiting which is understandable as they can get busy during brunch and we didn't have a reservation, of which I called earlier and was told there were lots of availability so we could just go up to them.
About 10 mins after we sat at a table, another group sat at the table in front of us. Another 5mins later that group got checked on by a staff and had their drink orders taken, whereas no one had come to my table to provide water or even introduce themselves.
A few minutes passed and that other table was brought water and their drink orders while we still hadn't been acknowledged.
At this point, frustrated, I got up, went inside to the bar, placed our drink orders and carried it myself to my table with the help of the bartender.
Another 5-10mins passed and I noticed the wait staff had taken the food order at the other table who arrived after us and still not acknowledged my table.
I then took my niece, nephew, and sister's order, took our menus off our table, walked back inside to the bar and placed our orders there, all within full view of the wait staff.
I effectively had to wait my own table with the help of the bartender inside to avoid conflict and preserve what was supposed to be a fun brunch experience for my niece and nephew while watching this supposedly busy staff impeccably serve this group that arrived after us without so much as looking at our table that was literally 4ft away.
Eventually the staff brought our food out and they supposedly comped half the meal, but I would prefer to not get treated like trash than to save $60.
I am black, the group who sat in front of us are white, the wait staff in our area was also white, whereas the bartender who helped take my order and continued to bring our order out was black.
However, I'm choosing at this moment to attribute this to incompetence rather than some primitive and immature display of racial bias or malice, and I'm hoping this never...
Read moreWent w a group of 6. The apps were fine, nothing spectacular. The white bean hummus left a lot to be desired, the calamari had too much batter, the poppers were pretty good- it’s hard to get bacon wrapped anything wrong. Of the 6 of us, the best entree was the short rib tacos. The drinks were also fairly solid- “the one w the mezcal” was a hit.
One of us ordered a salad w chicken, but before ordering asked how substantive of a salad it was. We were told it would be a reasonable sized salad so we ordered it. It came out on something the size of a bread plate and w the waitresses apology. She put it down in front of us and literally said, “sorry, it’s usually larger than this.” No attempt to make it more substantive- actually, i take that back. She did ask if we wanted fries to help supplement the salad. It was hard to hear that though because the whole table was laughing at how small the salad was. I assumed it would not be on the bill when we paid, but it 100% was. We paid $25 for a few pieces of dry spinach and a couple pieces of really dry chicken- the salad was supposed to have goat cheese. That goat cheese is best in class at “hide and go seek” cause i couldn’t find it in the salad- and there wasn’t a lot of salad to hide in. To top it off, when they cleaned the table and took away the salad plate we joked with the busser and said, “be careful, that’s a heavy plate.” Even she had a hard belly laugh.
2 stars for the ambiance, the waitress was kind (although not a problem solver), and the laughter from the salad.
Cost was about $90 a person.
I guess that’s a solid deal for the person that ordered the salad if you consider the cost of a workout cause whoever ordered that salad has nothing to work off!
Update: On 13 December 2022, I reached out to trudell@harwoodhospitality as requested. It’s now 24 January 2023 and I’ve received no response. Maybe trudell got lost looking for...
Read moreGorgeous restaurant located in a historical landmark which was originally an old schoolhouse – St. Ann’s Parochial School. The restaurant has an old meets new interior with original exposed brick, old artifacts and antique photographs along the walls that are contrasted by a modern bar and contemporary glass staircase.
It is clean and offers a variety of seating options and a relaxed but sophisticated atmosphere. The bar is substantial, and the extensive patio is a true oasis in the city which is well shaded with beautiful trees and large umbrellas.
The customer service is 5-star with friendly and attentive staff. The portions are fair for the price and the food is fresh and prepared to perfection. They offer a comprehensive menu with vegetarian options and were able to accommodate dietary restrictions including a reduced salt diet.
We made a reservation for brunch and were seated immediately upon arrival. Everything on the menu that we had was delicious including: the Avocado and Lobster Toast, Eggs Benedict, Country breakfast, French Toast, Wanda’s Doughnuts, and Fluffy Cakes and a Mimosa Carafe. We were incredible satisfied with the food, service and overall experience. I highly recommend this restaurant and will return to it time and again.
Side note: the bathrooms are located on the second level along with a unique feature of this restaurant, the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum. Fee entry and an incredible private exhibition that has been made free to the public which showcases Japanese Samurai culture and is the largest of its kind...
