The experience of Hôtel Swexan begins before setting foot inside its doors. Competent, eager and helpful gentlemen manning the entrance were warm and imparted a sense of security and allure for what lies within.
We were privileged to be the very first hotel guests to visit, and it was clear that the staff was polished and shipshape well beforehand.
Although we were rather early due to our excitement, we were joyfully accommodated by the front desk and then invited to join the general manager on a tour of the premises while our room was being prepared. Julian was friendly and keen to enliven our day with his amicable enthusiasm for our stay as his first guests to his place.
Isabelle, the lobby-level cafe and restaurant, had venerable service. The menu is well-rounded with French and Italian classical influences wrapped in modern tastes.
The Matisse, a gin martini with subtle sweetness and refreshing acidity from pickled capers and hops, was very effectively executed by the bar team.
We were very happy to wait for our meal to arrive, and when it did, boy were we impressed.
The Chicken Caillard served a generous portion of protein with citrus, capers, asparagus and an arugula salad on top.
The show-stopping dish we enjoyed was the Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese. If you’ve never read “Molly Moon’s Incredible Book of Mysticism,” first, you’re missing out, and secondly, you wouldn’t be familiar with the sheer joy the main character feels whenever she eats a homey facsimile of her childhood favorite dish. This was our same experience with the chef’s rendition of their soup and sandwich.
Upstairs at Leonie on the 20th floor at the pool we were pleased to take my friend’s mother to dinner for her birthday. The service was impeccable, and our server was phenomenal from both perspectives of the guest and the business.
We were recommended by the Director of memberships to imbibe the Paloma, which was alleged to have been very very spicy. This was absolutely true. The Paloma utilized a Thai chili infused tequila paired with a butterfly pea syrup. Unfortunately, the pea syrup was very viscous, and the build rendered it to sinking to the bottom of the cocktail. The combination of the Thai chili and the butterfly pea syrup wasn’t a successful execution for my taste.
The quail legs were wrapped in bacon and were smothered in spicy chili sauce. I was very overwhelmed by the power of the spice in the sauce and wrapping such savory bacon around the bland bird didn’t allow it to be the star of the dish.
The flatbread with squash and cream sauce was very crispy and thin and we all enjoyed it.
Although mom ordered her salmon well done, it came out with a nice crust, was still very juicy and had a beurre blanc sauce with capers that was amazeballs.
The caramelized onion dip was very loud.
The corn soup was a seven out of ten.
Mom ordered the olive oil, chocolate cake with a house-made marshmallow cream and fresh strawberries. That was phenomenal.
Although I was unable to spend the night in the room, I was able to see what mom would enjoy without me.
The room was decked out in swanky attire, Texas themed with modern class, a definite boutique style and state of the art appliances and accommodations for guests. A fully stocked bar with various instruments and all the tools any bartender might need with a premium cast of liquor and elevated wine selection. I was very impressed with the room. I was more impressed with the hospitality that we were shown by the staff here at the Hôtel Swexan with complimentary macaroons and champagne and a personalized, touching note of grace and welcome for the purposes of our stay.
This maiden voyage was sexy, elegant, classy, fulfilling and, while ephemeral, will always be embedded in our hearts as a joyful time with family and friends.
Thank you, Julian, and all the team at Hôtel Swexan for the best first night we’ve been privileged to have enjoyed in all our years put together.
We wish you the best in your...
Read more9/21/23 (UPDATE) VP of operations replied 9/18 to email him (Ben Yoo) & I did, but have not heard back + his reply is no longer showing on this review. This place is just strange & won't last long in Dallas w customer service like this.
9/18/23 We made date night reservations for dinner at the steakhouse Sat at 10pm to try it out as Swexan is new in Dallas. The entry, lobby, & the restaurant was nice as far as decor goes, & the hosts that guided us to the restaurant were all very lovely, but once we got into the restaurant it was terrible. We're patient & don't like to complain but after spending $359 for 3 drinks, a filet we had to send back twice, an appetizer, 1 side, & awful service, it was an obligation. Keep in mind, They weren't busy at this time for dinner & they had so many staff on the floor polishing glasses & walking around, but none of them seemed to be an actual server but 1. This is long, sry in advance. We were seated at 10:02pm, no one came by to give us water, menus, or drink menus or even ask us if we had been assisted until 10:17pm *At that time we were asked what type of water we prefer & did we want anything other than water? So we asked for a drink menu and got that a few mins later. When he got back w drink menu, my date asked for the wine menu & the server just kept trying to remember their wines, rather than bring a list. I've never been to a nice restaurant where they didn't offer you a wine list and a drink menu right off the bat. So once we put our drink order in it was already over 20 mins into being there & we were hungry so we get our drinks about 6-7 mins later, w so many staff walking around polishing glasses but no one asked if we wanted bread or just brought the bread & menus. After finally getting menus, we were able to order right away & wanted to place it while he was still at our table or else we may not have another opportunity for a while. So we ordered & then we asked for bread if they offered it & were told they might be out but he'd check.Well thankfully they found some so we had that. He didn't explain what type it was or even go over the whole beef story which I read they had some special beef on their website another reason we wanted to go there we love steaks. As 1st time guests, they should be proud to share what makes their menu unique, but no. we placed our order & about 5 mins later our waiter came back & asked us to remind him what we ordered...We ordered a filet to split cooked medium, shrimp cocktail but didn't get 2 appetizer plates, which wasn't awful but if you're used to nice steakhouses in Dallas that's how they serve food that's shared. We got our steak & it was rare, so we had to send it back, & reminded him "medium". They brought it back still red and too raw, so we sent it back a 2nd time & finally the manager brought it back & it was fine. Our side by this time wasnt hot but we just ate it anyway. Not once were we asked if our dinner was good, if we needed another beverage, or anything at all. All the while we see the manager & the numerous staff continuing to make rounds, but never once did the manager take a moment to ask how our evening was going, if we enjoyed the food, & when we made eye contact, he quickly looked away. Never thanking us for coming in. We watched it happened to other tables as well it was strange. After we had dinner, we would've Iiked to have heard what desserts they offered, we always split dessert, & would've liked to have been informed of what they had that was most popular, but nope. He didn't try to entice us at all. After the check came, we had planned on spending a few hundred but for exceptional service and we didn't get that at all. It was one of the worst as far as service goes that we have had in years that I can recall. Sadly I don't think we'll be going back any time soon. They need to work on their server training & having so many on the floor that could be helping w your drink order, getting bread and water...
Read moreMy husband specifically researched area hotels and booked this one because the advertised they didn't sell pool resort passes to the public. We traveled across the country and had a limited time staying in Dallas, hoping to enjoy a relaxing vacation for a few days poolside. This hotel is also more expensive but we were willing to pay more for a better experience. To our surprise, our vacation was completely ruined when we went to the rooftop pool to find it overrun with club music blasting and way over crowded with drinkers and partying like spring break in Florida. The crowd you see in my pool pick are NOT hotel guests, most with drinks in hand, yet also hogged every single lounge chair with their belongings so you couldn't use those either. ||We soon discovered by further investigating that in fact these were NOT paying hotel guests. The Swexan was DECEITFUL on their website since they call these people "club members" who pay to use the pool. Sorry, but that is NO different than the public resort pool passes other hotels offer that we specifically sought to AVOID. We were not the only hotel guests upset. There was literally NO WHERE TO SIT anywhere! ||If we had known, we absolutely would have stayed somewhere else even outside of Dallas. Our time has been completely ruined. This hotel should absolutely just be transparent on their website so you know that even though you are going to pay to stay there, they open their pool to the PUBLIC. In general, hotels that do this, are completely missing the point of their very existence. Paying hotel guests are basically staying somewhere without amenities just for hotel guests. You are now paying to stay at a "public pool." ||We are stuck here in our hotel room on the 4th of July with not much else to do in 100+ degree weather. Thank you for ruining out vacation. We did complain to someone who called herself a supervisor. With that said, that was now a few hours ago as I'm writing this and they have done absolutely nothing to make this right. This place is not worth the price. They aim to market their hotel as a lovely place to stay but it's just a club hopping public pool. We were given excuses that they are a newer hotel and told that "no one comes to Dallas in the summer" word for word. Is a response like that for real? We are literally paying to stay at a hotel that exists for out of town guests. ||We had to come to Dallas for a special family event, so if you are going to work as a supervisor at a hotel, I don't think this is the best excuse or statement to make to guests. I can't even make this up. With that said, she did listen and was polite, but our trip is still ruined and nothing has been done whatsoever by the hotel to even try and make it up to us or the other hotel guests who also had to go back to their rooms and were openly...
