As far as museums go, this was an amazing location to visit for my husbands 25th birthday. We both had an amazing time, all of the sculptures were so beautiful and the women at the front desk were truly such kind and outgoing people. My husband and I had gone to the downstairs viewing area and were just enjoying the art, standing a good 5 feet away from each piece and keeping our hands folded and down to ensure that the security guard in the room would feel no worry while we were there. Well, we had come to the last sculpture in the room when we were screamed at by the security guard in the room that we were not allowed to touch the artwork. Considering that there are about 30 signs we had seen saying the same thing as we walked around the room before we stopped at this sculpture, my husband replied that he was sorry, but we had not even come close to the piece. This security guard then proceeded to tell us that she had witnessed us herself touch the sculpture and that the cameras had caught us doing so. Feeling as though we were being singled out, I quickly said “We apologize and we will move on.” Again the security guard began to argue that she had seen us touch the piece. With that being said, it was truly disheartening to feel singled out in that way when we were simply trying to enjoy the exhibit. I understand that this association must prevent people ruining art by touching it, but to be singled out and yelled at across the room for something we had not even done is absurd. Naturally, we both left after this event as it made us feel completely unwelcome in the building, labeling us liars and blaming us for a thing we had not done. This truly impacted my view on this exhibit and the values that they hold...
Read moreVisiting the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas on the first Saturday of the month turned out to be an incredible stroke of luck. Not only did we get to enjoy a world-class collection for free, but we also stumbled upon an extraordinary exhibition by Sarah Sze. Sze's work is nothing short of mesmerizing. Her ability to seamlessly blend video images into intricate assemblages creates a truly immersive and theatrical experience. Each piece seemed to come alive as images floated across, transitioning seamlessly into the next. It was a captivating fusion of technology and artistry, and I thoroughly enjoyed discovering a new artist. The surprises that day didn't end there. As we explored further, we realized that the Nasher was also participating in the Dallas Art Fair, adding an extra layer of excitement to our visit. The outside space provided the perfect backdrop for this local event, with artists and businesses setting up to showcase their work. We made sure to return later in the day to fully immerse ourselves in the festivities. It was a day filled with art, discovery, and unexpected delights, leaving us with memories that will last. If you find yourself in Dallas, don't miss the chance to experience the magic of the Nasher Sculpture Center, and I would also recommend to pop by Dallas Museum Of Art which is just next...
Read moreEvery 3rd Friday of the month The Nasher caters towards family (kids) time. There is an outside bar that is amazing. The bartender is Alex. He is Simply Amazing. You can always tell that he genuinely wants everyone to enjoy themselves. He has made my children all sorts of Virgin drinks just to add that special touch to the night to make it an exceptional memorable night. They play movies, have bands and ither events on those Friday nights. As far as the art is concerned... It's pretty awesome... If you're into art. I wouldn't recommend bringing young children if you are only going to look at the art. Young children are naturally going to want to touch things, run around, talk above a whisper, Etc. Please. Believe me when I tell you that the security guards have absolutely no problem reminding your kiddos of the rules! They are not rude about it. They are just doing their job. It's just hard to enjoy the art when you are constantly worried if the security guard is walking towards you because of your children or because of someone else! But definitely check out the 3rd Friday night of every month. Not only do you get the family time, the food and the drinks, but you also...
