Sky Blossom was Wilted
After a Friday of hussle and bussle, the girls and I perused our IG accounts to find the perfect spot for dinner. We ALL had Sky Blossom in the Top 5 of our lists and were eager to bask in the ambiance of good food and chic views. We got neither.
Upon arrival (6pm), we stepped out of the elevator, ready to be raptured into a tizzy of Carrie Bradshaw wannabes and packed tables. Instead, we walked into empty hopes and dreams. The only thing more depressing is a broken heel on a Jimmy Choo! Ya'll when I say it was EMPTY? It was empty. Bright side? Quick hot food and great service, right? WRONG!
The waitstaff was kind and efficient (there were enough of them to have 2 on every table) with expressions bordering on apologetic. They were the highlight of the evening. We were seated on the outside terrace(however, it was the one over Elm St. not the one with the skyline view on the other side) and instructed to scan the QR code for the menu. The "Dinner Menu"(which sadly consisted of half the lunch options and barely any of the offering you see online) 2nd disappointment. It was mainly bowls and soups ( don't get me wrong, I am a Claypot and Soup connoisseur! And I make a mean Pho when I have an easy 6+ hours on my hands) none of the items we were eager to have from the website menu. So, we opted to go appetizer heavy. My Sister and daughter ordered the Kiwi Mojito and B-fly cocktail, which honestly looked like the same drink in different glasses. We shared the Mango Habanero Wings(pretty good) Salt and Pepper Wings(lacking texture and zest that you expect in a Salt/Pepper Wing) Fried Calamari( lovely to look at, hard to chew. It was overcooked) Fried Dumplings(a STAR in the bleek night, but only due to the Hoisan sauce underneath) Steamed Dumplings( same as the Fried ones, but were cold inside and out) Shaken Beef Bao(beautifully, billowy bao, filled with bland, under seasoned, and dry beef) and how can you go wrong with Blossom Chips?(By serving cold fried wontons and Mashed avocados). Could have at least thrown in some SALT!
AND for the FINALE!!!!(Drumroll, please...) a $140 BILL!
Maybe it's better during lunch? Either way. Won't do that again! Let your flowers bloom...
Read moreHonestly, I was a little disappointed with my experience. I’ve heard a lot about this place for months now and finally made time to go.
Sky Blossom is located in downtown Dallas in Deep Ellum on a rooftop. I went during the day around 2pm on a Saturday so was a bit of traffic (which is normal I’m sure.) This does limit parking to metered parking and parking garages that cost. I know this is not at all in fault of the establishment, but where it’s located, is near a homeless population which can be a bit scary if by yourself.
It is nicely decorated inside the restaurant with themed decor such as Japanese Cherry Blossom Trees. The tables and chairs are also quality furniture that elevates the look. I honestly was expecting more from the atmosphere and space based on reviews and personal references. However, the size of the interior seating area is fairly small. There is patio seating that gives great views but I would only recommend sitting out there in cooler weather and/or at night to get the full experience of the lit skyline.
As for service, it was not awful but it wasn’t great either. I sat at my table for about 10-15minutes before being helped or asked if I would like anything. That was my biggest concern but after that, the service was normal.
I can say the food was good. I ordered the Beef Short Rib Pho ($17) which was great and filling. I did want a Spicy Pho but unfortunately those only came with a pork base so I added spicy condiments to it instead. My friend ordered the Chicken Blossom Clay Pot ($17) which she also enjoyed. If you’ve been to a traditional Vietnamese/ Japanese place for Pho, you know $17 is on the higher end for a dish of Pho. I can say, since I enjoyed the my Short Rib Pho it was worth the money.
I recommend going to Sky Blossom with a few friends as a date night idea just for the experience. I do believe if I went later at night, sat on the patio, experienced the night skyline that would have improved my first impression of the establishment.
Hope this...
Read moreHad the most unpleasant dining experience of my life here. Jose C was our waiter and our dinner took over 3 hours even though the restaurant was empty. 7 of us came for a birthday dinner it took an hour and a half to receive our first round of drinks and 3 drinks from the initial order were entirely forgotten. An hour after ordering 3 margarita flights we were told "the machine is broken and we needed to order a diff drink" we ordered replacement drinks and 30 min after ordering our replacement drinks the marg flights showed up (almost 2 hours into sitting there). Our food order wasn't taken until we had been there for 2 hours and all our food came at different times over a 45 min period.
The restaurant wasn't even busy. The people who got their dinner first were totally done by the time others got their food. Our water was never refilled during our 3 hours at this restaurant. The birthday girl had a shrimp allergy and the restaurant refused to replace her shrimp with chicken when she was ordering.
The prices on the menu on their website are different from what we were charged. The tacos on the menu were $8 and we were charged $10, when we asked about it our waiter Jose C said not his problem and that the prices had updated. We asked why the menu had not been updated on the website and he said he didn't know or care. Over 4 drinks were totally forgotten and never brought to our table after countless reminders but every drink was on our tab when we were asked to pay including the 3 $15 marg flights that took over an hour and a half after ordering to arrive. The staff here is arguably the worst staff in the entire dallas metroplex and it's very sad because the food and drinks were actually good. I will not be back and it was the worst service I've ever witnessed for a $700 tab.
I would love for the manager to reach out so i can describe more about our experience because there was no manager to be found during our 3 hour dinner last...
