This was my first stay here and I am absolutely in love, this has definitely made it onto my list of luxe hotels to return to. There are a few things I wanted to note that I don’t believe I’ve seen anyone mention in their reviews, that I think would be helpful to those, prior to booking.
1.) Get there at 3pm or later. Do not expect to have your room ready for an early arrival. I know so hotels can allow that but not here.
I arrived much earlier in the day around 11am and because of how serious they take cleanliness and inspections, it takes them time to ensure everything’s clean and I appreciated that. I did have to wait in the Tower Club lounge from 11am to 3pm until my room was ready but the girls there were so accommodating, ensuring to check on me and even gave me free coffee and water ugh! just super sweet! The Tower Club/Bar/lounge, while not affiliated with Mint House, it’s perfect for just enjoying the vibes and mingling, don’t miss checking that out when you get here!
2.) I’m not sure how this affects the 50th floor but if you’re on the 49th floor and have room # 4904, or maybe any room close to that, there’s a club on the 48th floor and they mean business when they party lol my first night I thought there was a party/event outside because my entire apartment was shaking, bouncing and vibrating due to the music and turns out there’s a club right below me. I wasnt aware of this until I called to see what was happening. I think that should be noted because I wasn’t able to get any sleep until 1am when they closed everything down for the night. I did, unfortunately, have to complain to guest services but they were more than quick to respond and handle everything via email and the following morning, in person, guest services followed up and confirmed things were taken care of and I truly appreciated that. I think had I known beforehand, there was a club, I wouldn’t have been bothered and might have actually participated in the turn up lol
3.) Bring food!! While you have the option to purchase a few grocery items, you’re gonna need real food. Either have groceries en route immediately after checking in or bring them with you. There’s no food available for delivery in the building and getting food delivered could take a while since it’s in the heart of the city and it’s always busy/crowded.
4.) For deliveries or Lyft/Uber, always Make sure to input “Mint House” as location so they can find you or find the place, the address alone doesn’t help. Also, for deliveries, the delivery person can only come up to the 48th floor to either meet you or you can notify front desk (at the podium) and they will collect your delivery and bring it to your actual room number. I was appreciative of that because my first night I wasn’t aware and after getting cleaned up and settled, I definitely didn’t want to get dressed and get on an elevator to meet someone for a delivery but i figured out my system and everything was great!
There’s always security in the lobby of the building and they made me feel very secure so even after hours when the building is locked, they usually can see when you’re arriving and are happy to open the door for you if you can’t get the access code to work or even before you get to the keypad they’re there to assist you.
I do wish all the bedrooms had TVs and the lights didn’t automatically turn off after some time but no big deal. The skyline and lamps helped when it got too dark in the room for my liking.
Overall, everyone I met in this hotel, that worked there, were so helpful and reassuring, I appreciate that and can’t wait to come back. This is literally the place to be, it felt like home...
Read moreI stayed here with my partner for a little anniversary getaway weekend and we were very, very impressed. This is definitely a unique experience in a unique location, but it’s absolutely worth the few hoops you have to jump through — so let me share some tips!
The hotel is located on the 49th and 50th floors of the Santander/Thanksgiving Tower in downtown Dallas. The building is shared with offices and residential units, so parking and navigating can be a little confusing at first. There are garage entrances and exits on either side of the tower, which is super convenient. If you pay for parking through Mint House (totally worth it), you get in/out privileges for your whole stay. That means you can come and go freely without paying again each time.
The elevators are kind of futuristic and might throw you off at first. You select your floor on the screen outside the elevator, and then it tells you which elevator to take. If you’re parked on-site, just find the garage elevators and hit the big “1” on the screen to head to the lobby. From there, the high-rise elevators will be right in front of you. Pick floor “48,” ride up, and then walk to the end of the hallway where you’ll see a big Mint House sign and their mini front desk, plus the elevators that take you up to your room.
Yeah, it’s a bit of a process to get to and from your room, and I can see how that might turn some people off. But honestly, the views from these rooms make it all worth it. I’m pretty sure these are the highest hotel rooms in all of Texas, even taller than the nearby Sheraton by five floors. So if great views are your thing, this place delivers big time. That said, it’s probably not the best choice if you’re scared of heights.
The room itself was simple, but very clean and tidy when we arrived. The bed was comfy — the pillows, not so much. The shower had low water pressure and the showerhead was a little loose, which caused some leaking, but the overall shower setup was beautiful and spacious. The high-quality Public Goods toiletries were a nice touch too. There are also public restrooms on each floor, which more hotels should honestly consider, especially for families. The AC worked great. The ceiling fan, not so much.
Overall, we had an amazing stay at this one-of-a-kind hotel and would love to come back sometime soon. We didn’t try the Tower Club because the prices were kind of ridiculous, especially with so many better and more affordable restaurants nearby — plus two 7-Elevens if you want to avoid overpriced drinks and snacks. Definitely check out White Rhino Coffee just two blocks down Elm, and Uno Mas for Tex-Mex over on Main Street!
Update -
We recently stayed here a second time as we were in town for a concert, roughly three months since my original review. The experience was just as exceptional as the first time around. My only complaint would be some very noisy neighbors but that is very much not the hotel’s fault. Also, some fixtures in the room (mainly the TV and mini-fridge) could definitely use some updating. Other than that, we enjoyed the same seamless, easy check-in/out process and incredible views from our corner room. I would still highly recommend this property as an affordable...
Read moreOver all, we enjoyed our stay and liked the hotel, but Mint House in downtown Dallas is definitely a unique stay. This is not what I would call a traditional hotel, so be prepared for some new experiences if that’s what you’re used to. Mint House is more like two floors of professionally managed air bnb apartments than a normal hotel. Each room has everything an apartment would have except an oven, and the view from our corner room was great! The pictures generally match what you’re getting with the room. The building has a pretty secure parking garage that is confusing. Speaking of the parking, PLEASE complete the online check in, and get your six digit code. This code is what you use to get into and out of the parking garage. This six digit code is also what allows you access to the series of elevators (yes, I said series) you will go on to get to your room and to open your door once you arrive. After you find a parking spot, you go to any of the elevators in the garage and tap 1 on the touch screen and get onto the elevator us assigns you. Once in the building’s lobby, you go to the elevators that list other floors. Every floor will have a lock symbol except 48, so tap 48. The 48th floor is where Mint House starts. The concierge/check in desk is a podium where we met a very pleasant and helpful guy named Luke. He was great. You will then get onto one of the elevators in this area, type that six digit code in again, and push the floor for your room. Each room starts with either 49 or 50, which matches what floor your room is on. You’ll put in that code to get into your room, and then you’re there! Now I’ll bullet point some pros and cons. Pros: The view of the city is nice, especially at night. The bed is actually more comfortable than other hotels I’ve been to. Having couch to relax on is nice. Everything is well thought out with all appliances, silverware, and even bowls and plates you would need. The shower is large. The overall convenience of parking and security. Cons/Weird Stuff: The lighting in our room was flickering in the bedroom and bathroom. The walls are VERY thin, even letting in smells from other apartments. The ceiling fan was loose and clicking. The sink was leaking. Parking and getting into the room was SUCH a hassle the first time. We also ran into two other couples that found it confusing, so we clearly...
