Arriving to, The Mitchell, on a Saturday evening around 11:30pm, I was surprised they had few guest, but my first impression was exactly what a business owner would want; I found the place charming, cozy, and the entertainer alluring in every way. We were excited to enjoy a cocktail, and entertainment, unfortunately, the bar staff’s professionalism didn’t rise to the occasion. When you have a huge assortment of liquors, you should expect guest to ask if you carry what they prefer, and the cost; that’s an educated consumer. Making recommendations when needed, is also something I would expect of a bar professional, not walking away, and saying let me know when you figure out what you want, while you go sit with friends. Everyone should enjoy the evening the way they choose, but while we were given less than amazing service for asking questions about the Japanese whisky options, most of the bar was drinking beer from a bottle! Why put forth the effort of design, and entertainment, if the staff sabotage it all! I’m positive, The Mitchell can do better!

Looking for an elegant speakeasy that serves oysters 🦪 with black caviar and champagne; escargots, frog legs and more, in the heart of Downtown D! All while having local musicians play jazz or other ambient live music, then this place is a must-try! It’s right behind the Adolphus Tower on Main St. They also host oyster happy hours once in awhile. The oysters and caviar prices are great, the quality of oysters was 🔝 (PEIs and others east coast bivalves depending on the day and market), as well as caviar - priced reasonably! You can light up a cigar on the outside patio. They play old b&w movies on the screens. The bar is ample, including wine choices. I love the noir/gold color scheme and beautiful crystal glassware, and the chandeliers are a showstopper! Thoroughly enjoyable evening 🖤💛

10/17/15 UPDATE [ -1 STAR ] This time i brought two friends and the experience was horrible. We sat at a table and I had to argue with the waiter (which i've never done in my life) about their happy hour time which their flier says 8pm, the website says 7pm and they are saying 6pm! I had to argue for a while before eventually they agreed i was right. I should mention that i came specifically for the happy hour because otherwise they are too expensive. In addition the oysters took forever to get to me and so did the drinks and then nobody asked if we wanted more. On top of all that; On the menu it says you can get a $5 gin and tonic or a $6 barman's choice yet when i ordered two barman's choice I got a gin and tonic which i truly hate the flavor of because it's bitter. I'd much rather you just poured gin in a cup and handed it to me. I failed to check the receipt to see if I was charged $6 for a gin and tonic that should have obviously been $5. The waiter was very apologetic to us and said the other guy helping us was new but honestly the whole operation seemed to be a clusterf*ck and it was disappointing all the way around. I will probably never go back again, sadly.

10/17/15 UPDATE *This review is just for the Happy Hour, essentially. I came on a Tuesday to enjoy $1 east coast oysters and $6 barman's choice cocktails. Oysters: 5/5 (clean and tasty) Cocktail: 5/5 (very good but i wish I had the option to have a $5 old fashioned) Atmosphere: 4/5 (place is beautiful but business seems to be slow) Service: 5/5 I saw other people's complaints about rude staff or something like that. I did not experience this but I will say that the bartender, even though he was very cool to me, he does not even smile at you when first meeting you so his social skills are a little lacking for the service industry. But that being said he complimented my "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" t-shirt so after bonding on that I now think of him as a brother. lol *Note to the business owner, please expand happy hour to at least include old fashioneds and you will have me...

My wine club patronized this bar for the first time tonight. I'm a downtown resident and frequent often but have never had such poor service. There was no wine list, and the bartender on staff Friday night was not well educated on the brands or regions of origin. We decided to see it through and had decent service from the wait staff, but toward the end of the night when the bar was closing we were refused access to the restroom... That's right after 3 hours of constant drink purchases and a pretty hefty tab we were not allowed to use the restroom in the facility. An imposter by the name of Fran flaming to be the manager/owner of the establishment recommend we go next door or use other bars near by because he was ready to go home. He also conveniently lied and stated other patrons had thrown up and "shitted" all over the restroom. As he was talking another member of our party walked out of the restroom and we asked her to validate this story which was untrue. This place cosmetically appealing and the band was great l, although the singer struggled for the words of song selections; however the lack of personal integrity and consideration for all guest was obviously neglected in this situation. I would not recommend as a place to frequent if service and integrity is...

Food and drinks are amazing! Staff is so awesome. You can really tell this group works together as a team pitching in wherever they can without hesitation. This is gonna be my new favorite place!

Update: I'm so disappointed in what this place has regressed to... for starters, please change your hours online and clearly post your hours on your door. This will be the second time we come thinking they open at 4 and they don't open until 430. We felt a little bit of a bother that we walked in right at 430 as if we were inconveniencing them. Shouldn't you be ready for your customers already?

The bartenders have changed since a year ago and the vibe is completely different. There's a major unapologetic lackadaisical attitude from the team. They seem to always be out of food items and liquors. Don't get me wrong, they are not a-holes but their energy just doesn't match the vibe your expecting for a place like this.

This place used to be so cool and the previous staff truly set it apart from the rest. I agree with another reviewer that they need to do better. There is a lot of work they need to do because this place could be great as it once was.

The only reason I give 2 stars is because the food is the only consistent thing about The Mitchell. Its...
