I never write reviews but this one felt warranted. I went here to watch the basketball game and needed to use the restroom. When I went to open the bathroom door, I accidentally walked in on someone washing their hands, so I quickly apologized and closed the door. The lady in the restroom made a comment about "didn't you see the door was shut". Which, yes, but sometimes doors are just shut and I didn't hear anyone saying it was occupied. When the lady came out, I, again, apologized for the genuine mistake of opening the door, and she started cursing and raising her voice at me saying I broke the door. I, again, apologized saying it was an honest mistake and I did not do anything intentionally. As I started walking towards the bathroom, I saw her go up to another employee and start yelling about me to him. So I walked back over to her to apologize for the genuine accident, again, and she started yelling at me, again. At this point, she started stepping closer to me so I stepped back, a little afraid because she is a taller lady than I. She then switched and began saying how she's not a woman to hit other women, and I countered with well you stepped at me. At this point, I realized there was nothing I was going to say to calm her so I went into the restroom. While in the bathroom, I could hear her talking rudely about me to the other male employee and it made me nervous to have to walk past them to meet up with my friends. I had my friends meet me at the bathroom to leave out the back door because I was genuinely scared to have to walk past this lady. While I understand we all have bad days and things that set us off, her reaction towards me was completely unnecessary. A simple comment about being careful with the doors would have sufficed. Instead, she made me feel unsafe in the restaurant. As the other male employee sat there not intervening as this lady yelled at me, I will not be able to return here as I would not feel safe with the employees. I hope this review can help this establishment work to ensure their employees keep a safe environment for their customers, and maybe put a sign on the...
Read moreThis is RIDICULOUS!!! Uptown Pub is one of my very favorite places, so came here to write a review, but simply have to address certain comments. First off – I can most assuredly say that none of the bartenders here ‘help themselves to a credit card’ and they absolutely are NOT stealing tips. This staff is comprised of service industry veterans, none of whom are going to risk their job or professional reputation just for a few measly dollars. (I actually got to know the Pub by following a well-respected bartender from another establishment.) All of you going on about the “$50.00 charge” – let me guess, were you using a Discover card? Because when you open a tab w/Discover, $50.00 is immediately taken out as a temporary hold until the transaction clears. Same thing with the claims that employees add an extra 20% tip. Open a tab with a debit card, and your BANK automatically adds on a temporary 20% to ensure a tip until the ACTUAL CHARGE clears. (Usually in 3-4 days) So maybe learn how your cards actually work and review your statement activity before being so quick with the disparaging accusations. And as it’s a very old, historic building, yes – the floors are a little creaky/uneven. If it’s that bothersome, please stick to the dime-a-dozen, cookie-cutter, craft cocktail bars and leave this gem to the rest of us. (Also, given this particular Uptown location, I know for a fact that the Health Dept. does indeed make regular stops and the Pub is always up to code.) By far the best prices to be found in any part of town, on both drinks and food. (The food itself is so good that many times I’ve run over and picked up lunch during my work day.) Lastly – anyone saying they got attitude from the staff had to have come in with their own initial attitude. To echo one of the other comments here – this IS a place that by the 2nd time you come in, you’re already remembered and considered...
