Village Burger Bar is nestled in the West Village shopping center, which is perfectly lit at night. With lights on every tree and draped above the streets, it truly is comforting sitting outside at Village Burger Bar.
The restaurant has a more neighborhood bar vibe than what I expected given the West Village shopping center itself. It has a large menu of appetizers, burgers, paninis, and more to satisfy your hunger. The restaurant has 10 or so beers on tap and also some local beers on tap.
I had the a local Blood and Honey beer from Revolver Breeing Co., which was nice a cold. The bartender did leave a bigger head when pouring the pint, so I asked him to top it off again before we paid.
The Dougie was my choice of burger, with cheddar, lettuce, bacon, onions, an egg and some secret sauce. Very good burger, cooked medium. The bun was light, warm, and crispy. I like that they butter the bun and grill it for the crisp and that it isn't all that doughy.
My wife had the chicken pesto panini. She wasn't that hungry so she didn't eat much of the panini, but said it wasn't bad. Chicken was juicy and the sauce was good. She wished there was more pesto sauce on the panini though.
The fries....if you like fries, you'll like the fries here. They are the thin pencil fries that are just small enough for you to have to grab a handful to actually eat them. Ask for the spicy ketchup too that rivals Whataburgers spicy ketchup (I think it's better) .
The downfall of this place is that there was a lot of trash in and around the patio area later in the night. We ate around 11:00 an hour before...
Read moreWe visited VBB before heading to a movie at Magnolia Theatre around the corner and were pleasantly surprised by the modern atmosphere and expansive menu. I ordered a custom burger with the garlic aoli and truffle fries, and man was that a good choice! The truffle fries were AWESOME (even better with a side of the aoli to dip them in!).
Squeamish beware, however, the burgers are cooked medium. I did have to send mine back because I am a well done girl and it was still way too pink for me to really dig in. The boys at the bar took care of me though, and brought back not only a new burger but a fresh plate of fries (because I'd munched my way through half of them while eating).
My only real complaint is that there really isn't table service here - it's a nice enough place that you would think they'd have people walking around checking on customers, especially on busy nights where it's hard for people to get up from tables, but we had to get up from our table and walk to the other side of the restaurant around a corner to order, get refills, etc.
Just would have been nice to have someone take my order instead of having to take my purse with me up to the bar for fear of having it taken, and also would have been nice to have someone take the plates from our table after we'd clearly been done eating...
Read moreMy star is for the customer service. I drove down to Dallas for lunch and day shopping in the Village and thought to stop here to try one of the burgers advertised. Upon entry there were 3 young male employees leaning over casually at the bar. They glanced at me and kept talking amongst themselves but not 1 of them spoke to me, to greet me or offer assistance. At first thought, I didn’t think anything of it too much other than they were young, rude and this was not chick-fil-a customer service. UNTIL, not even 30 secs later did a white couple (male&female) walk in behind me literally as the door was closing all the way did all three of them rise to say welcome in, how are you, offered them a menu and seating. Standing there in awe I politely turned and walked out. It was literally like an experience you see on the movie screens. I’ve heard the reputation of the areas in Dallas but this was my first experience of it. I walked to a nearly Mediterranean eatery and spent my monies where the owner & staff were extremely kind...
