Walter's Kitchen Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Dallas

I’ve been here twice, a year apart. Both times the food was good. The service I received today was like no other, and not in a good way. Long story short I placed a to go order online as I was going to be visiting on my lunch break and didn’t have much time to sit and wait for the food. When I arrived to get my food there was only one out of 50 tables being used. I informed a server with a very long ponytail that although I ordered to go I was going to sit and eat it although packaged to go. She said “if I order to go then I must take the food to go and could not sit and eat” as if I had brought outside food into the establishment, which I did not. She loudly complained in and out of the kitchen that I was taking up a table and I should have taken my food to go. I was embarrassed and felt unwanted. I considered getting a refund and taking my money elsewhere but I didn’t really have time to change plans. I wish I could have spoken to a manager but because there phone line doesn’t seem to work and this service is haunting me today I came here. The food is good though but “one bad apple can ruin the entire bunch” of the good experience I should have had here. Not...

I had the meat and cheese omelet with potatoes. They brought the dish to the table and I noticed that the cheese wasn't melted on top of the omelet. They took it back to the kitchen and returned it with the cheese melted. The omelet was cooked right, without the egg getting dried out. Folded inside were nice chunks of sausage and ham. Each bite brought forth strings of melted cheese. Nice job!

The potatoes were not cooked all of the way. They weren't horrible. They just lacked that soft, velvety texture that a properly cooked pan potato should have. They were spiced nicely with some caramelized onion and red bell pepper. One distraction was their use of a large grain salt when seasoning. The salt was prominent enough that it crunched with every chew, adding to the under cooked stiffness of the potatoes.

Their menu was diverse. I'll go back and check out some more dishes in the future. *They do serve chicken fried steak during lunch, but you can't get a CFS and eggs...

On a Saturday run to Dallas we stopped in at Walter’s Kitchen. Granted we walked in a few minutes after opening, mopping was happening, server had called off, but we thought why not. We should have walked back out and tried another day. The order brought was not even the same food we had ordered, and honestly what we had ordered and brought correctly was just not good. I always try to find a positive, and not a complete nag on a new place that just did not go well…I just cannot give anything positive. So with zero checking in, wrong food, the cherry on top was the nice upcharge put on each menu item for using credit card instead of cash. When I mentioned this difference, I was told they need to put it on the menu. So crappy service, crappier food and we were charged extra to not enjoy it. I in no way want to hurt anyone’s business.
