Selina Renee Baking Studio — Restaurant in Dallas

A friend and I ordered cookies and a cake from this place for a friend's 60th birthday party. We requested cookies with a photo image, and a single tier cake with burgundy/ wine fondant, and cascading flowers. The cake by itself came to be a couple dollars shy of $200. When I arrived to pick up my order, there was an issue with the cookies, which was promptly corrected without me having to wait long at all. I appreciated that. The cookies actually ended up being a hit.

But the CAKE, which should have been the main event was disappointing to say the least. When the lady first brought out my order, she was already trying to tape the box shut without me looking at the cake. If you’re proud of your work, you show it off. The cake wasn’t terrible, but it was not representative of anything I saw on their website. I'm pretty sure they will not be using pictures of the cake they served us to advertise their services. When I texted pictures of the cake, several people asked me if I made it myself. The contract they had me sign clearly states that I will be receiving a FONDANT EXTERIOR. That is not what I received. As a matter of fact, the icing had discolorations and was not evenly toned. I was aware that the cake did not look as I expected when I left the store, but on event day I had no time to deal with this plus I went in knowing you can’t really guarantee someone’s artistry. It wasn't until I got home that I realized that one of the reasons the cake looked so basic was that it did not have the fondant exterior. Naturally, throughout the evening, the icing they used softened, melted, got dented, and the flowers started falling off. The cake had only been unrefrigerated for 2 hours when this started happening.

I was highly disappointed, and I feel like I was gotten over on. It was embarrassing to be at Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck at Reunion Tower and have them bring that cake out in front of a room full of people. It seemed like they slopped that cake together the morning of and hoped I didn’t notice it fell short. Well, I did.

I've never actually met Selina, so I can't really talk about the customer service, but I can definitely give you the inside scoop on the quality of her handcrafted cakes. My birthday cake was designed here and after seeing the finished product, I was in awe. I had a 2 tier cake of designer wear. The first tier was a Chanel yellow cake with buttercream frosting. The details were impeccable! She outlined the cake using quilt details and where the lines crossed, there were bead features, exactly what their iconic brand is known for. There was also a Chanel pearl necklace hanging off the cake. The second tier was a Louis Vuitton inspired design with their signature checkered pattern in brown, and an LV emblem. The "cherry" on top was a Christian Louboutin shoe. All things I obsess about were described right here and as all contents of the cake were edible! The cake was so beautifully designed that I felt bad cutting it. But the cake was too good to not devour. Super moist and decadent, but also very light! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It's hard to design elaborate cakes, but to design one with such beauty AND for it to taste amazing is a winner in my books! Thank you for making my special day...

It was easy to place the order and the long-distance ordering was painless. Payment and ordering was a breeze and clear.
