Denny's — Restaurant in Danbury

This Denny's location is one of my favorites. It is a clean, calm, and suitable atmosphere. You can enjoy your meal at this location no matter what your mood. I am impressed with my overall visit on Sunday. Upon entering Carrie greeted us and gave us the best seating for my party size. She quickly sat us and grabbed our drink order, while we studied the menu. A big plus to me. Everything we ordered came out and was so precisely timed. Drinks, then the starter, then came the entrees. The food was prepared as asked and nothing had to go back to the kitchen. There was approximately 5 other tables there this day. Not only was the food great, the service was impeccable, and lastly the store stood clean and sanitized the entire meal. Every free minute Carrie would sanitize tables, clear tables and work the register, all while timing everyone's meal perfectly. Mind you I didn't realize until it was time to pay, that Carrie was the only employee running around this establishment. That is an amazing feat to accomplish. Running the entire store by yourself. She played hostess, counter girl, server, busgirl, manager, supervisor, and clean up. She did in one hour, what would take an average person all shift to accomplish. Carrie deserves a raise and a promotion. Help like that is truly hard to find. An employee that can do everyone's job. I limited my overall rating to 4 stars, only because the store would allow only 1 person to work. That is unfair to Carrie, but she proved no one else is needed. I wanted to take the time to write a review based on my experience at the Denny's location in Danbury.

Firstly, upon walking into the restaurant I couldn’t help but notice a foul order in the air (seem come from the old rug that looked like food and drinks were spilled on it). The restaurant was dimly lit, carpet was filthy, the bench seats had syrup because they felt sticky to the touch and I also noticed coffee stains on most of the seats.

The men’s bathroom was disgraceful. The soap machine was broken, hardly any toilet tissue, the toilet seat was partially broken and practically falling off the commode. I also noticed rust and dirt all around the wall of the toilet.

I have been to several Denny’s but I have never, ever visited a Denny’s in this kind of condition. I must admit that I almost decided to not dine in but thought to give it a shot. I was really disappointed with lack of hospitality and aesthetics of the restaurant however the food was good. On a good note, the waitress was nice and helpful but some of the other staff were watching TV and not paying attention to the business. In fact, the waitress said to them “You guys are not so busy?”. It appeared as though one of staff members was a manager.

I’m only bringing these issues up because I would like to return back to this Denny’s location but only if there are improvements. I’ll return but if no changes have been made that’ll be my last time at that location and instead would go to I-HOP.

Before I proceed I realize this is Denny's. That said, here's the recap of our visit last week. There were two female waters on-staff. One of them (ours) appeared to be pulling double duty and helping out in the kitchen, so there were lengthy time gaps between her visit to our table. She wasn't exactly rude but did seem like she just didn't want to be there, which if they were understaffed I can kind of sort of understand. One person in our party ordered a breakfast for dinner and the breakfast sausages were still raw inside. Another ordered I think a grilled cheese with ham which was cold and slimy. I - the genius- thought grilled salmon was a safe idea. (yes, I KNOW it's Denny's). The fish fillet looked like it turned pale and had a stroke and it smelled like a sewer. For the third time, I KNOW it's DENNY'S, but as long as salmon is properly refrigerated and is not from last year it's pretty difficult to make it this horrible. They took my order off our bill but the waitress basically insinuated that I should have known better. And while that may be very true as an employee of a business establishment this was a horribly unprofessional thing to say. Gave this 2 stars instead of 1 only because the 11 year old enjoyed his pasta with sauce. Never going to this...
