Baumhower's Victory Grille — Restaurant in Daphne

Meh.

I want to like this place. I really do. Food is hit or miss. Drinks are the most expensive I've found in Daphne. Atmosphere is awesome.

Now, with the wings having a surcharge of approximately +50%, it's just very sadly, I place I pass on.

We are local to the Daphne Location, as residents of Lakeforest. I could walk to your location, and have a few times. As I said, I want to like Baumhower's, I really do. I need a good "locals" spot, and would rather support local business as opposed to some of the larger chains in the area. My son, a Junior at Daphne High School, and football player loves the place.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have. I'll be back, but I don't think it comes close to living up to its potential.

For clarity, I have never tried any of the other locations. We have been to the one in Daphne, for lunch, dinner, happy-hour, etc.

I love this place. You might catch their cooks on a bad day sometimes, but overall I think their menu is excellent. They have (easily) the best chicken wings (lemon pepper hot) and fried mozzarella that I’ve ever had. I LOVE their Triple Play fries (annual birthday request) as long as the fries are cooked light and soft. My kids and wife love the Gooeys. The Fried Banana Pudding and Strawberry Shortcake are out-of-this-world.

Here’s the problem: I am really scared about the future of this business. They do not charge enough for food. Their check averages are WAY too low. In my opinion, they should stop Inflation Bites and Kids Eat Free. Food and beverages are WAY too expensive to give away for free- especially when you’re not making it up in the margins. Just stop trying to be cheap. Use the freshest, best ingredients to make the best version of your menu that you can. No matter what the plate costs, you charge triple. Just have some expensive plates and some cheaper plates. And you damn sure charge $2.99 for a refillable beverage (if not $3.29). Don’t be afraid to charge what you are worth. People will still pay it. Just make it good. Pay people really well so you can retain quality and consistency and avoid overturn. Quit being so scared. I went there 6/26. Sat at the bar. With a friend. I attempted to make conversation with a man my friend said he'd met before. A big Boston Bruins fan. I said, "How about those Blues?". In a joking manner. He became enraged and his wife had to calm him down and usher him out. I turned to a middle aged male patron to my left and asked him what he thought. He looked at me like he wanted to kill me. He became enraged and belligerent. Super crazy hostile environment. The young lady at the bar was not equipped to handle belligerent drunk middle aged guys. I was completely shocked. When you go to a bar, at least when I go, I attempt to make pleasant conversation with those around me. This place apparently is okay with over-serving mean drunks. The patron to my left continued to threaten my friend and I and act like a complete psychopath. The bartender did little but ask him to calm down. He should have been kicked out. We left. I literally was in fear for our safety as this patron was clearly a psycho drunk who had been over-served. There will be an incident here if they don't get control of their patrons and that bar. Don't go here. Hostile patrons, bad environment. Apparently the owner only responds to positive posts... ...
