The QCA's best and (to my knowledge) only meadery, Bootleg Hill has come a very long way. Its current setting in a prime area for bike and pedestrian traffic, conveniently close to Great River, the Raccoon Motel, Abernathy's, and other local favorites, means it adds to and benefits from that neighborhood's appeal.
Decor is subtle, thoughtful, and richly simple, with details like custom honeycomb displays, wood slab tables, and a copper-clad bar. It's a well-crafted rusticism that pops up in a few of the breweries, and it suits.
The mead is simply delicious, of course. An extraordinary variety, straight up or mixed. If you've never tried mead, or your experience was a bottle of Canterbury in college, you need to give this a taste. Or several tastes: flights are available, and so are samples. Keep in mind that mead is higher octane than beer, and pace yourself...
Read moreBootleg Hill Honey Meads is a delightful find in downtown Davenport. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with comfortable seating and a warm, welcoming vibe. I especially appreciated the absence of distracting TVs, allowing for genuine conversations and a relaxed experience.
The live music was a highlight, engaging yet not overpowering, creating the perfect backdrop for the evening. It's evident that Bootleg Hill values quality entertainment without overwhelming their guests.
The staff and fellow patrons were incredibly friendly, contributing to the overall pleasant ambiance. It's a place where you feel right at home, whether you're a local or just passing through.
If you're in the area and looking for a spot with great drinks, live music, and a welcoming environment, I highly recommend Bootleg Hill...
Read moreUnique treasure in a sleepy downtown of mainly sports bars. This isn't one of them. Meads (fermented honey) are the main offering, along with a few interesting beers on tap. I enjoy the cozier NON-sports bar atmosphere, with off-days pleasantly quiet and good for striking up a conversation. Open Mike night is Thursday, with live music (nothing rowdy and no cover) typical on w/e's. Bar staff is quirkily friendly and welcoming of ppl of various types; that is, an "accepting" place, something welcome in the ex-blue-collar-town of Davenport, not known for diversity. And something I value.
Wish they had a food menu; they do have simple pizzas and chips.
Would belong well in Iowa City. Along with Roz Tox in Rock Island, nice refuge...
