Redband Coffee Co. is an institution in the area, but one I had not yet visited since returning to the Quad Cities Area a few years back. I'm not a huge coffee person, so I had little reason to seek them out. At any rate, I had recently had a sandwich at the Blue Spruce General Store and needed a walk, so what better place to walk to close by than Redband?
It definitely doesn't look much different on foot than it does driving by - it occupies a relatively small red brick building that, if not for the signs indicating the place sells coffee, could be mistaken for a house on 4th street.
The interior is not much to speak about, either. A plain grey concrete slab floor, white drywalls, and a white ceiling with some suspended light fixtures - with nowhere to sit inside. This probably works well in the summer, as there are picnic tables outside west of the shop, but in the winter the clear means of getting your hot beverage is to just go through the drive thru.
I ended up ordering a hot chocolate (again, not a coffee person) and got the last peanut butter cookie they had available. I briefly sat at one of the picnic tables to pause and enjoy both. The hot chocolate is definitely on point - some kind of foam or cream on top, smooth and rich throughout - definitely some of the best I've had in the area. The cookie was similarly good - it was peanut buttery and just a little chewy, perfect to have with a hot chocolate.
Not sure I'd come back here again, if just for the fact that I typically like places I can sit down and enjoy a drink with a book or a newspaper. Still, both the hot chocolate and pastry were fantastic and I'd recommend the place to those who enjoy getting both through the drive thru on their way to work or elsewhere....
Read moreMost of the staff is absolutely wonderful and kind. Chelsea is a delight to speak with. Their sandwiches are so good and the coffee is the best in the area. I'm leaving a four star review because of one experience with one employee. I went in Saturday morning and asked for an iced coffee with water rather than milk or milk substitute. They seemed hesitant, but were kind enough to fulfil my request. It was good! I like Redband coffee, so I want to have it without the milk. I liked it so much that I came back to have it again the next day. I can't bring the cold brew concentrate back to NC with me, so I wanted to get my fill. Sunday morning I made the same suggestion. The cashier refused. I told them that I had it the day before and I liked it. They said that they wouldn't do it and they didn't want to get in trouble. I asked if they would give me a cup of ice so that I could make it myself. A kind gentleman behind them said they they'd give me a cup of ice, so I was able to make it with the concentrate and some water that I had in my car. I bought a couple of sandwiches, which were SO good and the iced coffee, which was...
Read moreGet this… they have no tip screens. It’s beautiful. They just pay their workers adequately. Obviously that’s not the only reason I go there, but it gets me to go there more often. In addition, their coffee is amazing. The smell wakes you up from a block away. Furthermore, I believe they have the best breakfast sandwiches in town. Actually, I take that back… best breakfast sandwiches in Iowa. Wait, maybe the entire Midwest. In fact, I cannot think of a better breakfast sandwich anywhere so the only reason I am not say they have the best breakfast sandwiches in the galaxy is the pure statistical improbability and is not based in the fact that their fried eggs sandwich with sausage and smoked Gouda cheese seasoned to perfection on fresh bake bread is potentially the most delicious thing you’ll ever eat. Plus they have a dog window and give away dog treats, which made my dog very happy. This place deserves a 1million out...
