Froggy's — Restaurant in Davis

The food here is a little bit on the pricey side but is still quite filling. The burgers were quite greasy but remained on the gourmet side. I ordered the mushroom and swiss burger with a side of fries. When I got my dish, I was presented with the beef patty, lettuce, onions, pickles, tomatoes, and the bread all separate, requiring me to have to assemble my own burger. This was a first for me but wasn't an issue in any way. The water here tasted a little bit strange but wasn't bad enough where I wouldn't drink it. The food itself was delicious and I received a generous amount of mushroom and swiss. Food wise, this establishment gets a 4/5.

The service here was not awful, but my friend did notice that our waiter had a cut on his forearm with blood visible. It did make us a bit uncomfortable as the waiter did use his forearms to balance our plates when serving us, so this could be seen as a bit unsanitary. Despite all of this, the server was nice and accommodating.

Normally I would rate Froggy’s with 5 stars as my husband and I are long time patrons and love their food, However, tonight I have to give the place one star for service. After waiting about 10 minutes in line (my husband and I were at the front with no one else in line) I moved a bit closer to the front edge of the counter to catch the attention of the young woman working at the counter tonight. She was taking a phone order - the second I had watched while waiting in the line. She put down the phone and instead of professionally and politely stating something to the effect of “sorry about the wait, I will take your order shortly” she said “step back” and from her body language it was clear she wanted my husband and I to leave. This place has 2 out of 3. Good food, good ambiance, bad fast food style service. (Good wings and hamburguers) Following the trend after COVID, what used to be a place with 3 out of 3 stars now charges for the bill and ASK FOR THE TIP upfront. You order at the bar, you pick up your food at the bar, they serve on paper plates, no body ever checks if you need anything, if you actually need something you have to get up and get it... and that is why they ask for the tip upfront.
