But actually ... Why, boba? I have no idea what the point of Davis' hundredth boba place is unless it's a front for something (benign, like an art project). After passing it many times and wondering why the branding looked more like a Kumon Learning Center than a boba shop, I finally went in.
Nothing about this place makes sense. Most of the shop is occupied by a display about the history of mahjongg like something you might see in a local museum or an ambitious airport. No chairs, because they apparently don't have a license to have chairs(??). They also sell various anime doodads and, for some incomprehensible reason, Dippin' Dots (which for a long time could only legally be sold at amusement parks).
Now for the bubble tea. I'll cut to the chase: It is the worst I've ever had in California. (I've had slightly worse elsewhere.) They have far fewer options than most Davis boba shops, leaning heavily on flavors you can make with instant powders, and yet are somehow also one of the most expensive. I asked for the lowest sweetness level, but it was still so sweet and artificial tasting I had to throw it away after a few sips.
Three stars because I did enjoy the mahjongg exhibit. I just have no idea why it's in the worst boba...
Read moreI went here a few weeks ago with my brother, just to try something new. Atomosphere: At a glance, it is a very clean spot, and although there is nowhere to sit, I expect that it’s only because it is very new. Service: The man who served us was very kind and generous as he offered us a couple samples of the donuts. They have an alternating selection and we had the tiramisu donut and the cheese/glazed one. The service was great! Food/drink: They donuts were both very nice and we finished them. I ordered the strawberry green milk tea with lychee jelly. It was very refreshing and I would definitely order that on a summer day. My brother ordered the brown sugar with Boba and it was very good and sweetness and flavor. All around great experience will definitely...
Read moreSuper quick service and friendly staff. I ordered the passionfruit green tea + brown sugar boba and it was spot on. I do wish it had passionfruit seeds in it, but ofc I understand that alot of people don’t like that. Regardless, it was super refreshing and you could actually taste the tea quite a bit. Boba itself was soft yet chewy, just how it should be. Unlike other shops, the boba actually had flavor and tasted like caramelized brown sugar —...
