I found this place while searching for a couple good places to eat while I was attending a conference in Daytona. This was one of the places that came up when asking around for recommendations. Therefore, after settling in and attending the first day's sessions I went across the street and stopped at Hog Heaven. They have free parking right at the restaurant, but do bear in mind that when there's a major convention there is also paid parking nearby in case it's busy. The BBQ restaurant has just the right atmosphere for a BBQ restaurant with that rustic setting and choice of furniture. Unlike some places that love putting a lot of tchotchkes up, Hog Heaven doesn't really do but I would argue that clean appearance works here. The dining area was also nice and bright. The service was good as well. While not on top of refills, the server that attended my table did well to answer my questions and ensure my meal came out in the timely manner. For my meal, I had the pulled pork and two sides, having the waffle fries and macaroni and cheese. I generally enjoyed the pulled pork as it had good flavor and a decent amount of smokiness. I would like just a little more seasoning on the pork, but that might be my own BBQ bias speaking there. The macaroni and cheese had good noodles and the cheese was tasty. Only downside...I wanted just a little more mac and cheese for my side. The waffle fries were definitely my favorite as they were crisp and fresh and I loved the texture of the waffle fries. As with many BBQ restaurants, they have different sauces available at each table. I definitely got the most out of the mustard and the smoky sauces myself though I definitely tried all of them with my pulled pork...and maybe mixed a bit of the smokey and spicy BBQ together. Hog Heaven is definitely a good place to get BBQ in Daytona. Especially if you're along the beach itself or at...
Read moreOverall experience was mid. For a place that’s mostly known for BBQ the entire menu is not that great. We ordered an appetizer of the mozzarella sticks expecting it to be pretty good. We were wrong. The mozzarella was not melted and the breading was not cooked long enough. It tasted like a soggy napkin. The chicken tenders I ordered were decent but were not all cooked the same. They tasted old and one of the pieces looked hard as rock I didn’t feel like chipping a tooth. The Mac and cheese tasted like it came out of a bag and my potato salad tasted like it came from the grocery store. My s/o ordered the ride and shrimp and he couldn’t even finish the plate. He said the ribs were dry but somehow rubbery at the same time. He also got Mac and cheese and said it was not good. The only thing that was decent was the shrimp, which was no surprise since this is close to the ocean. The fries were also pretty decent, I ended up changing my Mac and cheese for these and they came out crispy. Regardless, for the price everything tasted cheap, even the condiments came in pre-made containers from different companies instead of homemade. In my personal opinion Florida should stick to seafood because yall are REALLY good at that, BBQ.. not so much. Could definitely just be our experience. Sophia, our server, was super sweet and attentive. Probably the best thing about our entire experience. Overall atmosphere was also mid. Entrance felt clustered and parking is not the best. Then again it’s near the boardwalk so most customers probably walk in. Place smelled better than the actual food and apparently we’re supposed to know how to lip read in order to...
Read moreHubby wanted bbq and this place was within walking distance of our hotel and google gave it 4.1 stars so we decided to give it a try. Worst bbq I’ve ever eaten! We wanted to eat inside because it was extremely windy out but the AC is apparently broken and the restaurant was so hot! Sitting practically on the road was not fun. Hubby got a half rack of ribs and a quarter chicken. He asked for potato salad and the waitress instructed him to get something else because in her opinion their potato salad is not good. He opted for Mac n cheese. I got a regular cheeseburger and the Mac n cheese. His chicken was dry and the ribs were bland and dry. The Mac n cheese was dried out and had zero flavor. We asked for it to be replaced with a baked potato. The waitress apologized and said the Mac n cheese is hit or miss depending on who makes it but it is usually not good. My baked potato was so old it had turned brown, was extremely starchy and tasted rotten. Hubby’s potato was fine but tasted like it was boiled not baked. When the waitress asked how the potato was I told her mine had gone bad and she said oh it’s brown because we smoke them. If that were the case then why was my husband’s potato white? The cheeseburger was over cooked and dry. Even the Pepsi tasted bad, I couldn’t drink it. The only thing we got that was really good were the corn nuggets. It’s been a few hours and our stomachs haven’t been right since. I’m seriously hoping we don’t get...
