After a couple of really nice experiences three years ago, we were extremely disappointed with Brome after dining there earlier this evening.
I'm not sure whether it was because of the remodel, or simply because the restaurant was very busy, but it felt much more chaotic and cramped than during our previous visit. As we were waiting to order there were several customers standing around the register either waiting to pick up to-go orders, or talking on the phone immediately next to us, making even the experience of ordering loud and jarring.
We ordered a Vegamami Burger, an Impossible Burger, and a Double-Stack Burger with drinks and fries. The drink machine was overflowing with water, and there was water all over the ground near the machine.
All the booths were taken, seemingly by parties of one or two, so we sat at one of the long communal tables in the middle. Another very-large party nearby had four families and 7-8 kids all kind of screaming and loudly watching videos on tablets and phones. It was chaotic and not a pleasant experience. After another group left we moved to one of the longer tables in the back, which was a bit better.
It took nearly a half hour before our burgers came out, and they were cold and underwhelming. Everyone agreed that the burgers looked like something you'd get at a fast-food chain like McDonald's - a burger you'd be glad to pay $5 for but not $12-16 as we did. At that price we all expected higher quality and more careful preparation than seemed to be taken by whoever was preparing our food.
Additionally, the fries we ordered came out roughly 20+ minutes after the burgers, meaning everyone was done with their burgers by the time the fries came out. We got both the kennebec (normal) fries and the sweet potato fries. Both types of fries were excellent, but because were already done with the burgers we had a few fries and took the rest to go.
This seems like the kind of place where you'd have to know the right time to go in order to avoid crowds, and where you'd need to know exactly what to order off the menu to get the right kind of meal. I suspect if the restaurant had been half as full it might have been cleaner, quieter, we might have gotten our food sooner, it might have been hot when served, and we might have gotten all of the food at the same time. Unfortunately tonight none of those things were true.
This was a favorite spot of ours in Dearborn a few years ago, especially considering the availability of vegan and vegetarian options, but we'd probably take pause before coming back again soon. Maybe in the summer when the patio is open again. And maybe just for fries and...
Read moreI’m not going to say my experience was bad, but it definitely wasn’t super awesome. I found the menus on the wall somewhat confusing since several items and options weren’t listed or easily visible and I didn’t even know of a burger I would have liked to try until I had already ordered. The burgers and other sandwiches are pretty good and the sides were okay. The sweet potato fries were crisp and I enjoyed them but the regular potato fries were kind of chewy and not very warm. Our food took just over 20 minutes to arrive at our table and our meals were not brought out together. The atmosphere is pretty cool and the facility was very clean. The business model is also appealing. They serve organic, non gmo, meal options including vegan and vegetarian options. They pay their employees a “fair living wage” which is why they tell you they don’t accept gratuity. They also have a counter of number of trees planted by the company which I thought was awesome. What they want to do is great, but it’s going to cost the consumer. Two combo meals cost us $27. For people like us, this kind of place is not somewhere we would frequent, but we both said we would maybe come back again. I do love the concept and I hope it becomes a more common model for other businesses. One thing I think would be great since they have such an environmental and organic focus would be to have paper cup tops and paper straws or some kind of organic biodegradable...
Read moreA really nice establishment. It's usually clean and the staff are very pleasant. The food is very good although sometimes the timing isn't always great.... for instance..my daughter and I ordered our food together..I got my food first and waited for my daughter to get her food. It was taking quite a while ( 23 minutes) so I walked up to the kitchen to inquire about my daughter's food and the staff apologized and said it should only be about 5 more minutes . I did however eat my burger while my daughter waited for her food. One of the staff members came to our table " empty handed" to ask me "what was your order"? I showed my receipt and she said ok..I'll have it out in a few minutes . Well she certainly did bring it out and apologized. It was COLD! All it was ...... was one griddle chicken breast! And no we didn't complain because we had spent too much time there as it was..we were already late for a previous engagement as it was. I wouldn't of came to eat here before our other activities if I knew that this was going to take so long. We come here quite a bit and never experienced this before. So that's why I still gave 4 stars..they're usually really good. I also feel like I should deduct a star because they no longer serve their delicious...
