A remarkable Iftar experience! My friends and I had the pleasure of breaking our fast at this gem, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary.
From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance that transported us to the bustling streets of Istanbul. The decor, with its intricate patterns and vibrant colors, created the perfect setting for a memorable iftar.
Our waiter, Emre, deserves special mention for his exceptional service. Not only was he attentive to our every need, but his friendly demeanor and extensive knowledge of the menu added to our dining experience. Emre guided us through the menu, recommending signature dishes that showcased the best of Turkish cuisine.
The iftar spread was a feast for the senses. From the savory aroma of freshly baked meat pies to the rich flavors of the kebabs. Their yummy squeezed lemonade was a refreshing blend of freshly squeezed lemons, just the right amount of sugar and ice-cold water!
To complete our meal, we indulged in traditional Turkish desserts, including the decadent baklava and rice pudding. Each bite was a perfect balance of sweetness and texture, leaving us craving more.
Our iftar experience at Galata was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of exquisite cuisine, warm hospitality, and impeccable service, especially from Emre, made it a dining experience to remember. We left Galata sweets with full stomachs and grateful hearts, already planning our next visit. Thank you for an unforgettable...
Read moreWhen I stepped into Galata I was honestly shocked. The store was so beautiful I almost thought I had stepped onto a TV show set. One of the walls has a gorgeous wooden art piece depicting various Turkish buildings. For lighting there are chandeliers with stained glass light bulbs. Not to mention the Turkish style couches around the place. I could imagine bringing a group of friends here to chat over tea any day.
Speaking of the tea. It is delicious. They bring over a Turkish chai teapot with sugar cubes. You’re able to make your own chai to your taste, so no worries about a group with different tastes sitting together. Small but the teacups have the evil eye on them, while I don’t believe in it I find it cute for it to be on there.
The food was a bit pricey but was definitely worth every cent. We got Menemen, Mezze Tray and Cheese Pide. None of this was spicy, which is nice considering we were at brunch. I loved making my own tiny sandwiches with the jam and cheese on the Mezze Tray. The light yellow jam (I’m not well versed in specific fruits) and string cheese combo rules.
Throughout the entire experience the people there were very nice. Especially Noor, near the end of our meal I was thinking of getting a dessert and before we decided one way or another on that, Noor graciously brought us over some baklava. She was so kind and attentive to not only notice us discussing but to do something about it. We talked to her a bit and she’s very lovely, I wish...
Read moreThere aren't any authentic Turkish places in Michigan. I had high hopes it would be a hit, but Galata sweets didn't improve the situation. I was disappointed in many levels.
Deserted at lunchtime, overpriced food, small portions, day old döner meat that was completely dry. Börek that was prepared in advance and probably reheated in a pan creating a rockhard layer at the bottom. Yes there was live music! An older gentleman playing the flute and signing "despacito" out of tune. The atmosphere might be better in the evening but I doubt we would be back to see it.
The decor is too busy, peppered with Turkish flags and made-for-tourists trinkets all around.
The unisex toilet seat was covered in urine, and there were paper towels outside the trash can. There were zero patrons present and staff were chatting to each other, so it must have been a while since they made the rounds.
The place lacks the warmth, and hospitality Turkish people are known for. Certainly placing the staff behind the counter creates a barrier, feels cold and unwelcoming.
The only line of sight to the cashier was just above the oversized, tip collection box, taking most of the available counter real estate. Ordering and prepaying felt more like a Starbucks.
I didn't expect to see Tres Leches, or Lebanese Fateh on the menu but it's there for people who like to go to an "authentic" Turkish place to eat...
