This review is going to be a little mixed. As ALWAYS the food at Avenue is my favorite! The taste and portion is always consistent and delicious with all of the flavors demanding you to keep coming back. My server was an energetic, friendly and helpful person that was so bubbly we were able to disregard the mistreatment we received at the welcome station where you check in to be seated. It was my 50th birthday weekend and I was entertaining out of town guests. My out of town guests have heard me brag and boast about having the BEST brunch spot here in my area and they could not wait to get here to enjoy Avenue Brunch House. We decided to end the weekend with them coming there before getting on the road. Well I had warned them about the lengthy wait times but how the food and service would be worth it. I had no idea this day they would embarrass me in front of guests. We arrived and we're told it was a 45minute wait. No problem we expected that. After an hour of hearing nothing from the text que, we came in to the restaurant to make sure we hadn't somehow missed our text. We were told no they were super busy give them 15 more minutes. So we stayed at the front of the line. As we stood there we overheard a lady come in and say her guests were not all present but she needed that window booth they had just cleared because she had a party of 6. My party was of 4. The guy agreed to give it to her although we were next in line to be seated which the young lady had told us when we came inside to check. When I asked the guy why we would not be given that booth he said please be patient they had a bigger party😳. We could fit our four at a table and a table would be available soon. 😳 This ladies people were not even in the building yet. I was appalled and embarrassed! How dare he make us wait what now is approaching 2 hours because it was now 30 more minutes we had waited inside. We watched the booth be cleared and sit with no one in it until her party arrived and he sit them in it although we were standing right there in his view patiently waiting. I even explained my over time wait and the fact that my out of town guests needed to get on the road home. He cared not and decided to offer us another table that became available. We just had to wait for the cleanup of that one. Then before we could get that one he gave us an entirely different table that "fit us better". Oh wow!!! This is when we got that beautiful server who was able to make us smile and giggle again just from her awesome service. She gets the 5stars. He gets...
Read moreMy daughters and I visited this establishment for the first time. The wait was about 10 minutes. Our first order, the quesadilla, came out quickly—it was hot and delicious.
We also ordered the chicken and waffles, smoked chicken wings, southern grits, cheese and bacon potatoes, the herbivore omelet, and the chicken skillet (which is huge and loaded with potatoes).
Chicken and Waffles – The chicken was tender and flavorful, but the waffle was overly crispy, even though I didn’t request it that way.
Smoked Chicken Wings – The wings were coated in salt like a margarita rim—way too much salt. Not cool at all. The flavor was decent, and the sauce was great, but it didn’t pair well with the salty chicken but paired well with the chicken from the waffles.
Southern Grits – These were also too salty. I’m not sure what the chef was thinking, but let’s just say everyone’s blood pressure took a hit.
Cheese and Bacon Potatoes – Again, overly salty.
Herbivore Omelet, Potatoes, and Toast – The omelet was not good, the potatoes were burnt and salty, and the toast wasn’t fully toasted. I barely ate a few bites—definitely a waste of money. I also, placed half in a to go container before eating because the portions are very generous.
Chicken Skillet – It’s big, but don’t be fooled into thinking the toppings are evenly distributed. It’s mostly a skillet full of potatoes with a small amount of chicken, topped with an egg—and, of course, loaded with salt.
I don’t understand the excessive use of salt, especially when there’s salt available on the table. Why was the chicken topped with salt? I get seasoning the grits and potatoes, but people should be able to adjust the salt to their own taste. Trying everything left me feeling like my blood pressure skyrocketed.
I filled like we received a 2lb bag of potatoes and salt container of salt.
I’m leaving a review because everyone experience is different but I know someone else is going to relate or not be surprised.
When I mentioned the amount salt and how burnt the potatoes were to the waitress, she just said, “Oh, I’m sorry,” and brushed it off. I didn’t bother calling over a manager because I won’t be...
Read moreThis past Sunday, my friends and I visited Avenue Brunch House for bunch. Unfortunately we didn't make a reservation before hand, that was on us, but we were told there'd be a 30 minute wait and we waited almost 50 minutes before we were seated. So I highly advise making a reservation. All of the staff we interacted with were kind and attentive. The atmosphere of the restaurant was unique. They had sports quotes from Mohammad Ali, Lebron James, and a quote by Anthony Bourdain posted on their walls. There was a lot of plants set around the restaurant and on the ceiling. Although it all looked good, I'm not quite sure what the theme is at this place. The T-shirts the staff had on were super cool and I wish I could have bought one. The set up is a little odd, if you come in the main entrance off the street you have to go to the back of the restaurant to check in at the hostess stand. While we were waiting we saw all kinds of food be delivered to other tables and the first thing we noticed was the portion sizes and the amount of sugary/sweet dessert breakfasts that were being served. They have breakfasts that have more sugar in them than anyone should be eating. I love a good Instagramable plate, but I am concerned at the amount of food waste this restaurant is creating. Every table left with a LOT of food left on their plates and/or multiple Styrofoam to go boxes. Neither of which is very environmentally conscious and I couldn't help but feel a bit put off by it. Everyone at our table ordered a different meal, nothing from the super sweet menu for fear of an intense stomach ache, but the food we got was really good. I ordered the Southwest Skillet, which I ate for brunch Sunday and my bf and I both ate for breakfast Monday as well. It's a lot of food. The cost is reasonable for how much food you get, but I hope they think about offering 1/2 orders at some point. A lot of breakfast foods aren't microwavable (pancakes, waffles, French toast) and end up...
