New year's day my family and I were staying at a local Hilton hotel. We decided to have a French breakfast, being that my wife and I are part French. We wanted our first meal of 2019 to be a french breakfast. As we were waiting on line, I noticed the guests ahead of us were being greeted very nicely "good morning"with wishes of "happy new year." However, when me, my wife and our toddler son were up next to be greeted, there was a very awkward 5 second of silence. We were looking at the hostess and she was just standing looking at us, with the friendly smile she had just seconds earlier wiped away from her face. No greeting from her at all, so I guess being a Realtor, the sales person came out and I greeted her, as if it was my restaurant she was entering. "Good morning happy new to you!", I said cheerfully. My wife is a doctor of psychology, so she tends to study people's behavior, rather then vocalize. As we are finally seated and waited 15 minutes for are order to be taken. I notice the other guest that had entered after us, their orders were taken and their food was served before us. I am also a Chef, my parents once were owners a French bakery/restaurant in Brooklyn NYC for over 20 years. That being said, I fully am aware of the importance of great service, no matter how good the food maybe, if the first impression is poor the whole dining experience is not good. I really don't want to bring up race, but the fact is we were the only so-called "minorities" in the establishment. And the look that the hostess gave me, made me feel like I flew in from another planet, as if she was staring at an alien from Mars. Constructive criticism, greet and serve all your guest the same. The owner/chef is a very good cook. My advise to you sir, speak to your staff about treating all...
Read moreI have lived in Deerfield Beach for 30 Years. I only discovered Sylvain's Cafe this past year. I was so pleased to find a different local breakfast place. I have been there 3 times this year and the food is always really good except for the toast. I'm sorry but warm bread is not toast. Every time I have had the same warm bread served with my breakfast and every time I haven't eaten the warm bread they call toast. I won't go back because of the toast thing. When my husband sent his toast back because it was warm bread, The cook put the toast on the grill and left it there a while, then the cook scraped the burnt off from the grill it had been there so long and said "toast re-grilled up". My husband got up & got his own toast & of course we were done with our meal & was in no mood for burnt toast. The cook stated " I've made thousands of orders of toast & you have a problem with it" . My Husband & I owned A small Cafe Named "MIllies Grill" for over 30 years in Ferndale Mi . It was Owner Owned & Operated and was a profitable little family & neighborhood cafe. In the United States the server is expected to toast & butter the toast usually. I do not understand why this cook was so upset and insulted by the fact we wanted lightly browned toast not white warm bread. Anyway, If you like toast with your breakfast do not go here. If you are not having toast with your breakfast, I think the crepes & pancakes are very good. In all fairness, the cook spoke with a european accent (perhaps french) so maybe he really doesn't know Midwest Americans like our toast, toasted. I know in Europe, some countries call sliced white bread toast. Because of the cooks attitude the experience for me...

Here goes.
I went to your restaurant , since I had passed by a couple times before. Thought I’d check it out, food looked good on google maps.
It was early morning and it was me and one other customer who was already eating, nobody else . The waitress took my order I asked for a sirloin steak with two eggs. With grits
The one on your menu for $10.99 or $10
She brought out my breakfast quickly , the eggs were good. The toast was good.
The sirloin was really bad very rubbery and hard to chew. I ate maybe about four bites and I left the rest. At most, I ate half of it and as hungry as I was. I left the rest .
The grits had no flavor, no salt or any type of flavor whatsoever. Again, the eggs were good and the toast was good. That was about it. I ate what I could, and when the time came to pay the bill .
The girl handed me a bill that said $16 .
I paid and gave it back to her, and then I remembered it said $10 so I was confused as to why did it say 16?
I got up and grabbed the menu and sure enough the sirloin with two eggs said $10. (On your menu) So I told her I think this bill is not correct , I think you put in the wrong order. At that point I had already paid for it .
She did say sorry and that was about it
So not only did I have really bad food that I couldn’t even finish. (Even as hungry as I was I couldn’t finish the steak nor the grits. )
But I also got overcharged for the food
I ended up paying $19 and change with tip .
My order was small I asked for was a sirloin with grits and two eggs. Nothing else
Left disappointed with the experience, and getting wrongfully charged more than what I was...
