Waterstreet Brewery
Whevener we’re in the Delafield area, we always try to stop by Water Street Brewery as it’s one of our favorite places to go. If we have company who’s visiting town, this is where we’ll take them 9 times out of 10 since the food is just so good.
Starting out with the cheese curds, they are one of the best fried cheese curds we’ve ever had. Some restaurants have super oily, not very cheesy tasting ones, but not Water Street Brewery. Theirs are light and fluffy, with no oily taste, just wonderful salty cheesy goodness. They are perfect little bites that are a great appetizer to share since you get quite a few. Their ranch to dip in is mild and a perfect compliment to the cheesiness.
Their chicken tenders are another top-tier appetizer to order. These are some of the BEST restaurant chicken tenders. The breading is a crispy beer batter that isn’t oily or overly greasy. The crunch when you bite into these is amazing, with almost a fluffy crispiness. The chicken is juicy and all white meat. If you’ve ever had those chicken strips where the breading is 50% of the tender and it’s hard and chewy, this is the exact opposite. The breading is such a thin layer. The piece of chicken within is huge and wonderful. You get 4 tenders and fries with the appetizer portion, which doesn’t sound like a ton, but the tenders are decently large and filling. This could be a great meal to order on it’s own or a good-sized appetizer for anywhere from 2-4 people.
Water Street does some of the best burgers we’ve had, and more than once we’ve driven over an hour out of our way just to have a burger from them. They’re juicy, perfectly cooked, with a fluffy bun. The flavor of the beef is delicious, and the patties themselves are pretty darn thick (½ lb) and filling. My wife loves the farmhouse burger with the over easy egg on top and spicy aioli. The egg is alway perfectly runny, with some of the best bacon on top. It’s thick sliced and perfectly crispy.
Their fries are beer battered, which aren’t typically my favorite type of fry, but these are AMAZING. They are crispy, not greasy, and wonderfully seasoned. They make a perfect accompaniment to whatever you’re ordering.
We also love their Chicken Schnitzel if you’re feeling something hearty and filling. The speaztle is perfectly cooked, not gummy in the slightest and well seasoned. The demi-gravy on top of the spaetzle makes for a super comfort food bite. The pretzel crusted chicken is crispy and well seasoned. The piece is also massive, making for a good-sized portion. Our favorite seasonal veggie side is the crispy brussel sprouts and apples. It’s a perfect fall flavor that pairs so perfectly with the spaetzle and chicken.
If you're looking for some fantastic quality pub food, Water Street Brewery is definitely the place to go. If we lived closer, we would be there all the time. We wish they would open a Madison location...
Read moreWe stopped in to eat around 2PM on a Friday afternoon. There were a few patrons eating at tables and at the bar. Not busy by any means. We waiting a few moments and were asked by the approaching hostess, "two?". No hello, or welcome. She grabbed two menus from her station and said "follow me". Not very personable for someone in a hosting/greeting position. Once seated we were greeted by our server who was pleasant, took our drink order and once the drinks were served asked us for our order, which we placed, with an appetizer of haystack onion rings. After a while when our drink glasses was just about empty, I realized that a long time had passed and we didn't have our haystack onions order yet. About 20 minutes had passed. About another five minutes passed and our haystack was brought to us. It was so disappointing because they were cold and a lot of the order was short, crunchy overcooked pieces. I'm pretty sure the order was left out and forgotton by our server. The fish fry we ordered came to us after a 30 minute wait. I know the times because I took pictures which have a time stamp. The fish was hot and flavorful, the potato pancakes were not and their taste was mediocre. My husband's cole slaw had a juicy dressing on it. Mine did not. The cole slaw salad was apparently just placed in the bowl from a bag. When we were a little more than halfway through our meal, our server checked on us and we ordered two more drinks. After a while I told my husband I think the server forgot about our drinks. After about 10 minutes the server was about to pass our table, stopped and ran back to the bar. I heard her tell the bartender to pull our drinks and then brought them to our table. We were done with our dinner just after our second drink arrived. When we left, a new host was at the station and sent us off with a...
Read moreMy wife and I went here several times in the past, liked it previously. Last time, several months ago, the food was good but the service was bad. Tonight, my wife and I went and had a bad time. I doubt there will be another time. The eggplant appetizer was very undercooked--crunchy, not from being fried, from being raw. We ate some. The waitress asked how was it. We said "different" and she dashed off before we could explain that it wasn't even done, nor did she ask further. My wife's mac and cheese was good, but my hangar steak was terrible. I asked for medium rare; as you can see from the photo, it isn't even cooked, just seared. To be fair, the one beer I had was good. In the bathroom I cut my finger on the towel dispenser. All and all it was not a nice dinner. I ate most of the steak because most of it was edible, although not good and it was tough, and we didn't have time to wait. At the end of the meal we decided we should mention the problems to the manager. We did not blame the waitress as it wasn't her fault and really just wanted to let them know that there were issues. He asked if we wanted dessert. Then, said there wasn't anything they could do at this point (apparently since the meal was over). Again, we weren't even looking for anything, but he was so adamant that we weren't getting anything off the bill, et cetera; I was surprised. I was expecting that they would at least offer to try and make it right. They did however give me a Band-Aid literally on top of the bill. At that point, I was shocked. There's the photo of my raw finger and pieces of my raw steak, side by side. The steak didn't even cut because it was uncooked. (that's why it is like pulled apart in the...
