Restaurant Review: Mixed Experience
I recently visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday celebration, and while it wasn't our first time dining there, it was certainly one of the more memorable visits—for both good and bad reasons.
Let’s start with the positives: the food was absolutely fantastic, as always. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals, and the atmosphere was lively in the best way. We laughed, joked, and had a great time without ever feeling too loud or out of place. It was an awesome experience in that regard.
Unfortunately, our server, Michael, left much to be desired. From the start, his attitude was off-putting. Some of us had already eaten earlier in the day and mentioned we’d just be ordering appetizers as our entrées. Upon hearing this, Michael responded with noticeable attitude, saying, “Well, I’m only taking appetizers . I won’t put that in.” It caught everyone off guard and brought an awkward silence to the table. As a group made up of current and former servers and bartenders, we were shocked by the unprofessionalism.
Later, while I was giving him my order, he suddenly stopped and turned to the friends beside me—who were just laughing and chatting—and said, “What did you just say? What are you laughing about? Is it about me?” They were completely confused and replied that they weren’t talking about him at all. He mumbled something about thinking he heard something, then refused to clarify what he thought was said.
Throughout the evening, his attitude didn’t improve. It felt like he was taking things personally for no reason, and it made the service feel tense and uncomfortable. Perhaps he was having a bad day, or maybe he's insecure and misinterpreted the laughter—but whatever the reason, it was not the level of professionalism expected in a hospitality setting.
If you dine here (which I still recommend for the food and vibe), I strongly suggest requesting a different server if you're assigned to Michael. He could really benefit from additional training in customer service and...
Read moreTommy's Tap and Tavern is a great place to go for delicious food and drinks in a casual atmosphere. The nachos and giant pretzel are two of my favorite appetizers. The nachos are piled high with your choice of toppings. The giant pretzel is also delicious, and it's big enough to share with a few friends and the beer cheese and mustard dipping sauces are the perfect complement
I also highly recommend the Triple T cheeseburger. It's a 10 oz. burger topped with melted cheddar, tomato, red onion, and lettuce. The burger is cooked to perfection and the toppings are all fresh and delicious. The fries that come with the burger are also very good.
Overall, I highly recommend Tommy's Tap and Tavern. The food is great, the drinks are cold, and the atmosphere is casual and fun.
Here are some more specific details about my experience:
Nachos: The nachos were loaded with cheese, meat, and beans. The chips were crispy and the toppings were all hot and flavorful. I especially liked the beer cheese sauce. It was rich and creamy, with a hint of hoppiness.
Giant pretzel: The giant pretzel was huge! It was easily enough to share with two or three people. The pretzel was soft and chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The beer cheese and mustard dipping sauces were both delicious.
Triple T cheeseburger: The Triple T cheeseburger was cooked perfectly. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the cheese was melted and gooey. The toppings were all fresh and delicious. The fries that came with the burger were also very good. They were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Overall, I was very impressed with the food at Tommy's Tap and Tavern. The nachos, giant pretzel, and Triple T cheeseburger were all delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a casual dining experience with great...
Read moreThe service from our waitress was good, but the food took a very long time to come out, and when it did, only my plate arrived at first with hair in it.
Unfortunately, not just a small piece, but there was a full strand of hair in my food. I hadn’t eaten any of it and simply told the server I didn’t want it anymore and would be okay with just the side salad (which still hadn’t come out yet). Then the manager came over, even though we didn’t ask for him, and offered to remake the wings or bring me something else. I politely declined.
Instead of letting it go, he told me he didn’t see any hair that everyone has hair nets on and claimed it was probably from feathers that hadn’t been cleaned properly. That explanation didn’t help, and he kept pushing me to reorder, even though I’d said no multiple times.
When everyone else’s food finally came out, it was fine, nothing special. My side salad showed up with croutons on it, even though the server had confirmed it should have any. I told her not to worry, I didn’t want anything else. She was understanding, but 10 minutes later the manager came back again with another salad, even after I had clearly said no thank you several times. He was really pushy and confrontational for no reason.
This place used to be better. I’m not sure if it’s new kitchen staff or new management, but the way the manager handled the situation, especially insisting there was no hair and repeatedly trying to get me to accept more food really rubbed me the wrong way. I didn’t ask for anything to be comped or redone. I just wanted to move on.
We won’t...
