Disappointing Experience During a Corporate Event
We recently had a low-key corporate event at this bar. Nothing wild—just casual mingling with coworkers. Each of us was given two drink tickets (worth $15 each), which was a generous setup. But the experience left a lot to be desired.
From the start, we noticed the bartenders strongly pushed specific elaborate, sugary cocktails. That in itself wasn’t a huge deal, but anytime someone tried to order something simple—like a vodka soda, a Long Island, or a double tall—it felt like we were putting them out. In some cases, we were flat-out told, “We don’t do that.” When I offered to pay out of pocket instead of using a ticket, they stumbled before remembering to say, “Oh—we don’t do that.” It felt like anything outside of their script was an inconvenience.
We initially thought maybe the tickets limited what we could order, so many of us switched to paying with cash or cards. Still, same attitude.
The tipping situation was also confusing. Some of us offered cash tips and were told the tickets “covered everything,” only for the tone to shift later when more people arrived and suddenly we were being side-eyed for not tipping.
To be clear: we weren’t a rowdy group. We were respectful of the shared space, friendly, and made an effort to welcome others who arrived and might’ve been alone—there were probably about 30 of us at any given time. Our company is massive, so most of us didn’t know each other, but we tried to be warm and inclusive.
Despite our good intentions and willingness to tip and pay beyond what was already covered, the overall vibe we got from the staff was that we just weren’t welcome.
Based on this experience, I can’t really see myself recommending this place or returning. The space itself was fine, but the service and atmosphere made it hard to feel like...
Read moreThis is our favorite neighborhood bar! We moved to Central Park area back in April and found DL shortly thereafter. It's perfect in every single way. I'm actually shocked by the few lower star reviews, as we have been in A LOT and zero complaints. The Gimlet is my favorite drink, ever! The boyfriend always gets an Old Fashioned (always made perfectly well) and the made-to-order cocktails are always sooooo good (and not on tap - as someone mentioned below). The new cocktails added to the menu recently are great too! Don't even get me started on the warm pretzels and the cheese that I would eat by itself - YUM! The music is always spot on and always different music in rotation (someone mentioned it was too loud and I slightly agree with this - last night it was perfect tho). The owners are great! The bartenders are fabulous! We love the dog friendly patio (please please open the garage door again). All the patrons are great and we've had some fun conversations with people - super welcoming! I guess my only complaint (not a real complaint) would be to have faux hot dogs for us people weird about meat. Ha! Other than that...we will be there every single week and we love you.
P.S. Thank you for the no kids after 6pm. As people without kids and the amount of kids at surrounding bars/brewery's we...
Read moreWe live nearby and were shocked to discover this marvelous place hidden in plain site. We really loved it, but were confused by the fact that the beer ABVs on the quite extensive beer list are not published on the menu?? In asking the bartender if he knew the ABVs of some of the beers we were looking at, he chuckled and said, "no, not off the top of my head." We were scratching our heads in confusion, feeling like he thought the question was ludicrous. We realized we've literally never seen that before... anywhere in the world we've been publishes their beers' alcohol content. I'm surprised it's even legal to leave that off, to be honest. Anyway, wonderful place and staff. We got extremely tipsy off a couple tasty but VERY strong 12-14% beers. If you're purchasing a can or bottle, ask to see it before they open it in case it's over 10% and you're not able to handle it that strong. If purchasing a draft, I guess you have to look up the ABV yourself because it is not published and the bartenders weirdly do not know. Very strange, but now we know and will come in much more...
