When Famous J’s first opened up- they were making some of the best pies Denver has ever seen. At the time their wasn’t many great NYC style pizza places. And the fact they boasted their water was the same as the bagel shop next door - it was definitely a huge leap forward for Denver. As time has gone on, the test of surviving quarantine hasn’t left famous J’s in good condition. The flavors of their pies have gone kinda meh. Sauce isn’t as tasty or consistent. It had this lovely Cinnamon spice thing that just worked great. The cheese was better, the pepperoni is the same , just way less of it. And the crust is kinda meh compared to being perfectly browned and crispy. I used to love the meat lovers slice , but now it looks like Totinos meats. Also the slices from either the street window or the 715 club window have gone way small. Like frozen pizza small. They used to take up a whole paper plate- maybe the tip of the slice just barely flopping off. To now theirs a good amount of paper plate. I used to recommend this place to anyone looking for good pie. But now I’m afraid me and my company will just go a few blocks down the street to the other pizza spot in the alleyway. They seem to know how to make a good slice and keep consistency. Only good thing I will say is their prices aren’t that bad compared to...
Read moreFriday night get off work. Not feeling like cooking. You come home to the historical Black district to a place that used to be the pig ear stand. Should have known that the pizza was going to be bad when I received it and the meat look like it was on a totino's pizza. I thought I had went to a grocery store and bought a slice of pizza from the freezer section. Take it home eat two pieces get sick. The only two things I had that day. Sick all day Saturday. Throwing up and you know what else. Some things should have never changed when it came to the historical Black district of Denver called the five points neighborhood. Even though it's been colonized. There are a lot of people born and raised of the neighborhood before the colonizer that are moving back to the Eastside which is making it better. However this place is not the pig ear sandwich spot that had been there for over 40 plus years and never gave anyone in the neighborhood...
Read moreHANDS DOWN THE WORST PIZZA IVE EVER HAD. Not only was it undercooked and still took 30 minutes to make but, there were no plates, napkins or red pepper/ parmigiano. I was told it would be $25 for a pizza, I was charged $50 for a single pizza with 4 toppings. There is no indoor area. You have to wait outside whether it's wind, rain, snow, sleet, or hail. Several employees standing around doing nothing with 5 customers standing outside waiting paitently in the snow. I will never purchase from this establishment again. I hate leaving bad reviews but this place literally and metaphorically left a bad taste in my mouth. I was just trying to feed artists and employees (that I don't even know) because we were vending at Cervantes and were starving. This placed sucked bootyhole.
