We went to this restaurant for the first & last time on Sept 2020. We wanted to go because of the delicious looking pictures they had advertised on their Google Maps page. This is an example of a restaurant that must have had a “leave us a great review for a free drink campaign” or something because what the reviews are saying and what is reality are two different world entirely! Here’s the truth:
TRUTH: Though the staff is friendly, what people go to restaurants for is ambiance and, above all, great food.
AMBIANCE: They were playing mostly terrible rap music the entire time - it felt uncomfortable and chaotic. At least have rap that has some Spanish words in it if you’re going to go that direction. Also, it’s so loud that sitting outside is your only option if you want to have any conversation without having to raise your voice or yell.
FOOD: First, we orders chips and salsa (because the pictures of it looked great), however, with much disappointment, the chips were very, very hard and lacked flavor. The chips were basically a chore to eat since we just paid $5 for them. The salsa was not anything special either. I think they may have done better serving plain PACE Salsa instead of whatever they gave us - and yes - we tried all 4 of their main flavors.
Secondly, we tried the queso + chorizo. Now, this was doomed from the start just because of the terrible chips, but dang, I didn’t think a ‘Mexican’ restaurant could make queso dip badly - though, unfortunately, my expectations of what I thought were possible was shattered. The queso is not scoopable & it’s like they were trying to pick a cheese that had the least amount of flavor as possible. I seriously could not believe it! Imagine melting down a white string cheese in the microwave at home - that’s basically what you’re getting. The chorizo on it was the only redeeming aspect of the dip. Again, don’t buy this - it’s terrible, absolutely terrible.
Lastly, the tacos are definitely not worth what they charge you - AND you can get a better tasting taco full of flavor at a dang Taco Bell - and that’s really, really sad. They don’t have many options for those of us who love various chicken tacos (look at their menu and you’ll see what I mean). Also, if someone is paying on average $5 for a single taco, it better be incredible - Machete Tequila + Tacos’ food was anything but incredible.
SUMMARY: Don’t waste your money at this restaurant. Perhaps they lost a cook that knew what they were doing from the shutdowns due to the pandemic, but seriously, their pictures on their Google site are way more attractive than when you’re eating the food. Such a...
Read moreWe stopped by here for lunch today. I’d heard of this place and thought we’d give it a try. They have a lovely patio. However, it looked like it might rain, so we opted to eat inside. Had I known for sure that it wasn’t going to rain, we would have chose the patio instead. I’m not sure if they don’t have A/C or if it was broken, but it was so hot inside that when we left, the 80 degrees outside felt cool. That doesn’t make for a very pleasant environment to eat in.
That being said, our server was great! She made sure our little was taken care of first and foremost. She was very friendly and attentive as well.
The food was just ok. Maybe I should have gotten tacos. I got a salad with shrimp. I just couldn’t see myself eating tacos in the heat of that restaurant no matter how much I wanted that or anything else on the menu. There wasn’t much to it - the salad could have used more toppings and less dressing. The shrimp I got were very flavorful though and that’s the one thing that probably saved my salad. Everyone else at my table got different kinds of quesadillas. They were decent - the tortillas tasted fresh, which is always a nice bonus. They came with some shishito peppers on the plate, which seemed a bit out of place with shishitos being a Japanese pepper.
The not so great part I have to bring up was the salsa that came out with our chips and guacamole. The chips were good - I like a thick chip like that. You don’t find them many places anymore. The guacamole was good. The salsas on the other hand, were not so great. They were lacking flavor and they all came out warm, which ended up causing upset tummies for all of us this evening.
All in all, this was a miss for us. We’ll stick to the hole in wall taco places...
Read moreThis place was our favorite place to get Margaritas and Mexican food. But last night our family (9 adults) went there to celebrate our youngest daughter 27th birthday. The Margs and appetizers were still good but our server was terrible! She was unprofessional, rude. We needed to accommodate a couple more family members at our table and she just pointed at a near by high top with 2 chairs and said you can use that. Left us to ourselves to adjust. Which understandably it was fairly busy. So I let that go. Then Mulitiple mishaps on who ordered which drinks. Then the music was up louder than normal and we had to raise our voices to hear one another. (Also because part of our party was at a high top across the isle) Then the waitress walked up to us and that we were talking too loud. She was rude and unprofessional in the way she talked to us! Just so I’m clear, we had only had one drink and as more of our family arrived they ordered so I am saying no one was disorderly or drunk! Just sharing stories and laughing over family memories! Enjoying each other! Her attitude and tone was not needed.
So I’m clear……My family is in the service industry (bartenders at North Italia and servers at another establishment) so we know how important professionalism is and why tips are SO important! We are normally very generous with our grituity! I’ve watched my other daughters in this difficult industry work their behinds off, handle difficult situations and people respectfully and they are rewarded accordingly! Unfortunately, the server and back-end help really messed this opportunity up! We left immediately and showed our displeasure with the lack of gratuity. Machette please...
