No clue what the hype is about here. This restaurant clearly spends more time working farm-to-table, hipster foodie lingo into their menu item descriptions, and not nearly enough time actually tasting or curating the quality of their food.
Starting off, we were here for a birthday and noted this while making the reservation. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not pick up on this at all whatsoever, and did not wish us a happy birthday or provide any sort of birthday experience; it was completely a normal meal from this perspective. Way to go above and beyond to help us celebrate a special occasion eye roll.
Service was otherwise fantastic and ambience was excellent. It is a bustling, beautiful interior space that is loud, but not overly loud. This is unfortunately where the good things end.
The seasonal roasted corn soup with hatch chiles was extremely underwhelming, and essentially tasted like something that was made in a blender with ingredients someone was trying to get rid of. It was overly acidic, and every guest at the table nearly recoiled after their first taste. No one wanted a second bite.
The Margherita pizza was similarly underwhelming, and I am pretty sure California Pizza kitchen‘s frozen version of the Margherita pizza is far superior. Two guests at our table got burgers, which were generally without flaw (though overdone slightly) and were probably the best entrée at the table. By far the weakest link of the meal was the grass-fed Peruvian steak, which - while cooked to perfection at medium rare - was tough as nails, and all of the guests who had a sample grimaced upon attempting to chew the first bite. I have shoes that feel softer than this meat. The saving grace of the dish was the vegetable and grain medley underneath the steak, but again not worth the price. Unless you are looking for a bodybuilder-grade jaw workout, skip this dish.
Fortunately, the cocktails were all well balanced and delicious, which is the only thing that saved this from being a two-star review.
Overall, quite an underwhelming experience. The quality of the food was spot on if the prices were ~20% less. As is, this restaurant is a great representation of what happens when Cherry Creek’s health-crazed food yuppies believe the hype of the menu verbiage moreso than what their actual senses are telling them. A return visit is extremely unlikely, and there are far better options in the...
Read moreWe have been going here for 6 years since moving to Denver and always ordered food that was cooked superbly and flavorful. However our most recent visit was a disappointment. They have a whole new menu so we tried the vegan cheeseburger, the OG burger, and the bison pizza.
We have no complaints about the pizza, it was really good. As usual, beautiful atmosphere, clean and inviting.
However, the vegan cheeseburger was not soft and was crunchy around the edges like a piece of toast. There was no beet, walnut, or portobello flavor. It tasted like something pre-frozen and microwaved. Nothing special about the basic tomato slice and piece of butter lettuce between that. Both burgers had stale buns that fell apart upon first bite.
The new kale salad and potato sides are not as good or tasty as the old versions. The white potatoes were undercooked. In the past my BF liked to order 1/2 salad 1/2 potatoes as his side and they never charged extra. Our server said he could honor this, but when the bill came, he charged full price for an additional side. For some reason, my kale salad did not come with cheese garnish but my BF's did and neither the runner nor server seemed to notice the inconsistency?
We spent upwards $80 including tip, without drinks. For $80 we did not feel the increased meal prices and quality justified it. Not sure we will be back, which is a shame. But it is a 40 min drive for us + the inconvenience of parking, so it takes some work to get here and to not have a A+ experience means we will reconsider our...
Read moreTrue Food Kitchen is a chain, which normally means you are to brace yourself for low expectations, and generally less-than-stellar cuisine. Ever since my first visit at a location in Maryland, I was blown away by the quality of the food, and the fact that I left the restaurant feeling really great. With that in mind, it was a no brainer that when I needed a delicious and healthy lunch while traveling for work in Denver for my wife, I was going to stop at this location.
Drew, our server, was the true standout of our experience. With a bright smile and a winning attitude, she greeted our table with an infectious joy and jocular confidence. It felt like we had been friends with Drew for years. Each time she checked in, she built on the fleeting relationship a server owns with a table. It was a masterclass in professionalism and personality.
All of this while serving several tables inside and outside. For those of us who have waited tables, this level of attention and care is difficult to maintain with so many things going on. We never waited long when we had a need, and she brought that consistent joy with every interaction. Drew could easily be a corporate trainer for True Food Kitchen with her level of talent and skill.
There you have it. Food was good. I expected that. But feeling a little sad that we may never see Drew again? Icing on the cake. Thanks for the great service and the pleasant...
