The guy who runs the "comedy" and fancies himself a comedian is a piece of $hit! I LOVE COMEDY, so my husband and his friend took me here for my birthday a few yrs ago. I was having a pretty good evening until this semi pretty comedienne from CoSps (whom he'd been fawning over all night) came up and started doing her bit which was all about her being a struggling single mother with low moral standards in today's society. Well she started talking about her crooked landlord and some wrong thing he did, and I booed him. I'M NOT A HECKLER. I was just being an engaged audience member agreeing and supporting the comic. Well the douche who runs the comedy show apparently wasnt paying attention and just heard booing. So, seeing this as a great opportunity to get in good with the "sure thing" single mom who admittedly jumped into bed on a whim; That creep proceeded to get up on stage and cruelly berate me for 10 minutes (not funnily I might add). I'm used to people cracking jokes on me and I'm a pretty good sport, but this was just...horrible. I didnt know whether to cry, run out, or just take it with a crap eating grin on my face. I took it, then we left as quietly as we could. I hate that S.O.B more than anyone in the world now, and I really hope that girl turned his worthless A$$ down. If he were to get jumped late @ night after the bar closes...well, I might just havta buy that person a steak dinner! Never going back, and I steer everyone else away...
Read moreThe Squire plays their music so loud that it disturbs nearby residents.
I am frequently woken up in the middle of the night and struggle to get sleep because this venue will not play their music at a reasonable volume level.
To be clear, I don’t expect total silence, nor do I expect that I will never hear the music from my building. The volume level is just INSANE. It is loud to the point where it is uncomfortable and without a doubt damages the hearing of the people inside. I say this as somebody who is a frequent concert goer and goes out a lot - it is just too loud.
The bottom line is that this bar is located in a residential area, and therefore should start taking the proper measures to not disturb the people who live nearby. The music needs to be turned down, and there is no need for speakers outside of the venue. The volume levels could easily be reduced without affecting patrons ability to enjoy or hear the music as this is a very small venue.
Hoping this review gets to the right people and that they have the kindness to...
Read moreComing from a musicians perspective, I played an open mic there and got excellent feedback from the crowd. A big downside is they say you can only play 2 songs, rather than 10-15 of stage time. But the staff themselves go up multiple times to just 'jam out' with each other and their close friends. They just sign up under their own name and they all play multiple times. It's awkward when the crowd is yelling 'Play another!' but the staff just denies you a third song because you played two already. The play time is not nearly equal to what and how long the staff plays. On Open Mic nights, all artists should be treated equally and have similar stage times. If they want to do their own performance set, they should do it on their own day! I play at mics all around town, and so far The Squire has the most inefficient set up.
From what I can tell, the bar is fun and divey. Drinks are...
