We were walking the Riverfront in the Rivertown area of Detroit yesterday and decided to walk the length of Atwater St and visit the Atwater Brewery, which turned out to be a very serendipitous thought because it led us to discover Andrews on the Corner, which was next door to Atwater Brewery. We noticed "family owned since 1918" painted on the brick of this fabulous old building and decided it was worth a peek inside. The vintage tin ceiling was the first thing I noticed before I was greeted by the super friendly and welcoming (dare I say beautiful in all ways...?)...Abby, who's father Tom owns the place now that the original owner, her grandfather, has passed away. We barely sat down and her father...who is said to be in his 70's but has the energy and handshake of a man 1/2 that age...or less, hurried over to introduce himself and welcome us like we were family. We knew immediately this was OUR LUCKY DAY! We stayed for an hour or so sampling a few of their many tap beers. We couldn't help overhearing other patrons as they offered one word commentaries on the dishes they were eating or had just finished. "Fabulous" "Super" "Wonderful" "Delicious"...you get the picture. Well, we had unbreakable dinner plans that evening so we decided we'd come back for lunch today. We took Abby's advise and tried their signature yellow perch...now it's my turn to offer a one word critique...."Awesome"! If there's a friendlier more welcoming place in town than Andrews on the Corner we've never found it and the food (and prices by the...
Read moreLEGENDARY TRUE DETROIT HOCKEY BAR!!! If you are a Detroiter and a true Red Wings hockey fan or just obsessed with hockey in general, then you ABSOLUTELY know about Andrews! And you also likely do know Tom and have had the Perch with fries at some point. If you haven’t had the Perch with fries, then you need to. They sadly no longer do shuttles to the games, but still an awesome place to hang out and get your game on! That goes for watching any of our great Detroit sports teams actually. Or stop in after the game. Great food with a friendly atmosphere. If you hang out for a while, you will be back. They have outdoor seating in the warmer months and are located very near the Detroit river and definitely a great place to go while enjoying the Detroit River Walk. Located in the historic Rivertown district, Andrews has been around since 1918. WOW! That is AMAZING!!! Definitely recommend you get to know Andrews 👍👍 Celebrate Detroit history. GREAT memories made here! Don’t forget to have a Bad Medicine. Ask the bartender and say hi...
Read moreDue to unexpected travel delay, we had a day to spare in Detroit. A walk along the waterfront brought us to Andrews. We approached it from the parking lot side and were taking photos as it is a nice traditional building in an area that is being rapidly redeveloped. Then we realised that it was a bar, so we went in! 10 of us found a large table, checked out the beer menu and decided to stay for a bit of lunch. I had the Greek salad, which was fresh and tasty. We were joined by the owner who told us about the history of the bar and his time growing up there and running the business. I love the fact that one family have been so invested in it, and I hope they stay. Places like this either disappear or get "updated" and lose their charm. As a plus, we were escorted by the owner to the nearby Atwater Brewery for a tour. Nice place, nice story and a very charming owner - he's on their website and is as friendly...
