Lunch time is the next meal to not having a breakfast. Since you missed breakfast you truly try to get a lunch meal in your stomach. WELL WELL WELL don't put this in your stomach. Old dough the swelled up to the size a person would use to make bread. Being a Pie maker myself and knowing what old dough looks and smells like I immediately did not eat the food. I pulled the bread apart and you can how the pie looks like bread. I also to a pic of the bottom burnt side that had not a lick of cornmeal to keep the pie from sticking to the pan. Over all it looked like a old pie that was re-cooked.

On our way home from Detroit, back to Chicago, we decided to try one more Detroit style pizza. These guys were open early, and we were able to pick our pizza up for the ride home. We got a Detroit style cheese and bacon. It was excellent. This had a bit of a Chicago influence to it, especially the cheese and sauce. The crust was a bit thicker and had great flavor. This was my fiance's favorite. I was never a fan of Jet's, and that's the only Detroit style I experienced back home in the Chicago area. PizzaPapalis definitely did not disappoint.

Upon arrival, we were greeted politely, told our server it was our first time and asked for recommendations. After 3 items off the menu she personally suggested, we made our order and proceeded to wait to eat in the dining area. Clean cozy soft benchs with tables and chairs, cozy wood atmosphere. We ordered garlic breadsticks with cheese and a small thin crust meatlovers. We are beyond full. Good overall experience will be back again.

We came to Belle Isle to see everything there. We googled somewhere to eat and found Pizza Papalis. There were 11 of us, we were sitting the 6 little kids down at the table, and a server walked over to our table and said normally you have to order at the counter and pick your food up but you have such a big group I figured I'd come to you. We thought that was so sweet. Let me tell you about our server, Jennifer....we had 3 separate bills and obviously a big order. She was on top of everything!!! Our drinks were out before we could even really look at the menu. She took our orders and had our food out so quickly. The food was sooo good. It's probably one of the best pizza type places we've been to. (They have lots of other things there to eat.) But Jennifer was on top of our drinks and cleaning up any empty dishes or trash we had. She has the best personality, she would joke with us, and she was very patient with the little ones. She was absolutely amazing. The food was spectacular, but her service deserves 10 stars. She went way above and beyond. We aren't from the Detroit area at all, but we will...

I was looking forward to trying PizzaPapalis and I really wanted to like it, but it turns out that this is really just not my kind of pizza. We got a small deep dish "Papalis Gourmet" with spinach, chicken, garlic, black olives, and feta, thinking that we were letting them take their best shot. It wasn't bad, but I'm not going to rush to eat the leftovers. The tomato sauce was fresh and spicy and plentiful, and I though it kind of overwhelmed everything else. My main issue was the crust, which I know others like a lot, but which I found bready and flour-y even though I know that it was done. I'm not a fan of the various pizza breads either, so let that be the grain of salt that you read this with. Anyway, I'm going back to my side of the pizza universe where crusts are well-done and thinner. We got a side garden salad and everything in it was fresh and the italian dressing was yummy. I should probably add that all the pizza ingredients seemed fresh too. We picked up the order and it was ready just two minutes after they said that it would be. All the women working in the front...

Hate to say it, but the customer service is fantastically bad. I will tell the story chronologically.

I walked in and ordered food at the counter, the server was not wearing a mask, and coughed into a shirt. I was about to say something but decided not to. Even if it wasn't covid, that's gross. I didn't have any particular issue but I ordered and it was straightforward.

While I was waiting for my food another customer came in to pick up food. And she said something about the coughing and the lack of mask, gloves, etc, In typical Karen form.

The server gave a pretty poor excuse. About how to cough and having lung issues, something to do with being a smoker. That she didn't handle the food.

As the customer was walking out the door she said something, And the customer asked "what did you say?" And a fight perpetuated for a minute and finally she left.

I was still waiting for my food and the server ranted about how she disliked the restrictions etc, to another coworker while insulting the customer.

Slices are okay, but yeah definitely not...
