Basement Burger Bar Detroit — Restaurant in Detroit

I was training coworkers that flew in, and was so upset that instead of the different variety of food we could have had in Greektown, they chose some old basement burger and fries. I’ve seen this place in canton, but never really thought to go there. Those two things were huge life mistakes. Never assume this is “some old basement burger and fries” and never not think to go there!

They have so many options to create and customize a burger that it’s not even funny. I did a burger blend, pepper jack cheese, caramelized onion, fried onion straws, sautéed peppers, bacon, and bbq sauce on a brioche bun. I did well done because you can’t even trust beef these days. Ordered the beer-battered fries and said what the hey, let’s toss on some nacho cheese.

Oh. My. Goodness. This burger y’all... even at well done it was so juicy! The toppings all worked so well together and was delicious. I thought the soft veggies might ruin the texture but no! So well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I am confident in saying this random place sold the best burger I have ever had. And don’t get me started on the fries!! Just come for the fries with the nacho cheese on top. I wanted to lick my plate they were so amazing.

The pics I’m added is because we decided to go again a couple of days later. I also convinced my family to go the one in canton a couple of weeks later. The consistency was on point, the only thing is my coworkers medium rare burgers were a little raw in the middle the second time around, but that’s what they get for ordering medium rare.

The atmosphere was nice, clean, and the staff was friendly. It was nice having the ability to build your own burger with numerous items to choose from, some items free up to a certain number but then costs can add quickly by adding more options or better options. Overall the food was decent but not all that great. Now... one person ordered the bison burger, it looked AND tasted NO different than a regular burger, so who's to say we didn't get just a regular burger at an increased price, and if it was "bison" it wasn't good. We had fries that had sour cream on them, and a pleasant surprise of a hair right on top of it. Stuff happens, I get it, but to pay that much and have it happen, it means quality doesn't match price. Would have told the waitress who was friendly, however she was so busy with running the bar AND trying to manage more tables than a normal place we didn't see her much. When we got the bill it was more than I expected and so looking at it closer I see a "service fee", which i had to track the waitress down to ask about it. OK, if you want to charge a mandatory 15% tip on dine in seating that's fine, but be honest with the customer and tell them, not hide it amongst the bill. I usually tip well and even with cruddy service I still give a reasonable tip, but if you are going to demand 15% then I guess that's all you feel that you're service was worth. But I'm sure many won't notice that and tip additional on top of that, probably why they aren't forthright about it. It was a nice place to try, doubt I'll ever go...

The server was utter trash! Most disconnected person I’ve ever experienced in a food service establishment! Firstly, the host (young man with gold/green dreads) sat me at dirty table…I had to ask him to clean it off (he offered me a seat at the bar but I’m pregnant and bar stools are uncomfortable). The server (taller guy with honey brown and dark dreads) , who was literally standing in the corner, didn’t come over to the feel till like 8 mins of be being seated (he wasn’t tending to any other table. He never introduced himself, he dropped off water…went back into the corner. I didn’t even get to order a drink. I filled out the burger order form thing and he came over another 8 mins later , picked up, put the order in and went back to his corner. I didn’t even enjoy my food…after 30 mins into being here I just asked another guy for my bill cause the server was on his phone. I watched the guy tell him to get the bill..:he took a bill to the only other table he had in the room which was a party of 4. I’m literally still sitting here and he is still on his phone. This is terrible..:second time being here…drove from Toledo cause I enjoyed it the first time….there wouldn’t be a third!
