I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this place that used to be my go-to spot for ordering cakes for special occasions. Something has definitely changed because there were several issues that made it a terrible experience: 1) The service was extremely unpleasant, 2) The cake was undercooked (please refer to the attached pictures), and 3) There was unnecessary stress due to a lack of communication. It was my daughter's 10th birthday, and I was filled with excitement as I emailed the owner, Manal, to entrust her with creating the special birthday cake. This was the first time in six years that I was celebrating my daughter's birthday with her, and it held great significance for us. Unfortunately, it seemed like just another cake to the shop, but for us, it was a truly momentous occasion. I had placed my order weeks in advance and happily paid the amount they requested over the phone. The pick-up date and time were confirmed, and I usually never leave things until the last moment. I even followed up multiple times to ensure that everything was on track and as ordered. I take full responsibility for trusting that they knew what they were doing, simply because I had been a loyal customer. On the day of pick-up, I arrived on time only to be treated poorly by the receptionist, who seemed unaware of my order. My heart started racing when she couldn't find the cake, and it took her 15 minutes to locate it. To my surprise, she then informed me that they were waiting for me to bring the cake toppers. I honestly didn't realize I had to bring them, and if they were "waiting," they should have called me to clarify since they never mentioned when I should bring the toppers. The receptionist called the store manager, who rudely spoke to me while facing away from the customers. Another staff member, who was responsible for finishing the cake, even had the audacity to call me crazy. I experienced the worst customer service, undeserved anxiety on my daughter's birthday, and the inconvenience of having to rush to Kroger to get the toppers before the guests arrived. Additionally, the cake itself was stodgy and undercooked (please see the attached pictures). They didn’t even finish the spelling of ā€œbirthdayā€ properly!!! I have made the decision that I will never return to this place again, and I cannot recommend them for any special occasion.

Friendly service, excellent desserts I had a slice of the 4 berry cake. I enjoyed the cake. The cake was tender and dense and there was not a huge berry flavor, if I could add more berry flavor to the layers between the cake, I would. I wanted to try more flavors and I would have tried more flavors but I was very full after one slice, I couldn't even imagine eating more cake. Of course that means I have to make another trip for more cake šŸ’ƒšŸ˜šŸ‘ They have plasticware [eco-friendly] for carryout or dine-in and silverware for dine-in and if you are dining in you will be served on a real plate. The French macarons are classic. They have excellent flavor. The birthday cake flavor is really buttery. I have to try more flavors but what I had so far was flavorful, and tasted pleasant. They offer coffee, specialty drinks [ex. chai, lattes, hot chocolate, affogato, cappuccino], tea, milk, milk alternatives [almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, etc], flavored syrups to make up your own flavored drink. The people who work there are polite, patient, and helpful. They answered all of my questions, and they were eager to help. There was no service issues at all. I'm considered to be a black/brown girl by people even though I only feel like a woman. I did not see any booster seats, high chairs for children but I wasn't looking for booster seats or high chairs. I'm sure that if you request those options they will probably have it available. There's no table service, you bus your own table and you bring your dessert to the table yourself. Don't drop anything. Parking is not available specifically for the bakery and it is hard to find parking. Parking is free, no meters, no paid public lots/parking structures. There is handicapped parking down the street from the bakery. They do have two private/single person restrooms. Seating is available inside of the bakery. This place is probably 95% desserts and the desserts range from small French macarons to a large whole cake so the options are wide and vary in size whether you want a small snack or a full scale pig out fest, they've got you covered. The decor is pretty, the real plates, silverware, and mugs are all very nice and I plan to visit again. Have fun folks!

I had to repost my review because the last review had several errors.

This experience was strange. I’m not from Detroit so this was my first visit to the bakery. I googled vegan donuts in the area and was taken to this spot.

The location did not have donuts. I figured that was okay because there were other vegan options. The service was a little chaotic. I couldn’t tell where the line was. The employees don’t speak unless they’re spoken to.

However, when it was my turn, I asked the young lady how dairy is substituted to make the vegan items vegan. I have a milk allergy and nut allergy so I asked if they used oat products, soy products or was it some type of tree nut based product like almonds.

She said ā€œI think there might be soy in itā€. I said is there any way you can check and informed her of my allergy. She went to the back to ask someone and came back after a while with a binder. She read the binder for a few minutes. At this point, another customer was in the store and being helped by another employee.

She was supposed to be helping me but ended up going to help the new customer with the other person. She never said hang on or anything.

She finally got back to me. I asked if I can read the ingredients since she wasn’t sure. She said she had to find it first.

She showed me a recipe for a vanilla cake but this didn’t include any products to replace the dairy. That was fine because maybe they just didn’t need dairy. I told her I didn’t want vanilla cake and wanted the ingredients for the chocolate and lemon that were in the store.

She told me the recipes are the same for all the cakes. I asked if I could see them. She said ā€œthey replace the dairy with all purpose flour. That’s what makes it vegan.ā€ I tried to understand what flour has to do with replacing dairy but I couldn’t. I expressed this to her. She mentioned the all purpose flour to me again.

By this time, she wasn’t the nice person who initially started taking my order. She was rude and dismissive. I went ahead and got the cake because I felt a little crazy about the whole interaction. I also got two pieces of regular cake for my husband. I said thank you and left knowing I’d never go back to this place.

Fast forward to trying the cake, the chocolate cake had a not so good taste. I had a small piece on the fork and no more. I tossed it out.

The lemon cake had a weird look, consistency and texture. I tried it anyway. It’s undercooked and just wasn’t what cake is supposed to be. However, I must say, the lemon cake had a good flavor. It just wasn’t cooked all the way.

My husband loves desserts, rarely leaves them unfinished and hardly ever turns them down. He had carrot cake and lemon blueberry cake. He tried them and threw both away. You’d have to know my husband to know how shocking this was. He doesn’t waste food but found them both to be not so good.

I’d like to add that I’m not vegan. I have a milk allergy. I buy vegan cake all the time because it omits the cow milk and its products that I’m allergic to.

I’m also the parent of a vegan baker. So, I’m not saying this as a first time buyer or person who hasn’t been buying vegan cakes for many years. My wedding cake was even vegan years ago. This was unexpected and an unfortunate first experience.

I really hope others have a better experience. I also hope the young lady is informed that flour is not a milk product and learns the proper way to answer the vegan question if it comes up again.

Additionally, it’s okay to say I’m unsure. It’s not okay to just say anything and hope someone goes for it.

*it’s free to be nice 😊 it’s also contagious.

I must add that the location is beautiful and whimsical inside. It’s too bad the service and products do not...
