It was my first time to downtown Detroit so I chose City Tour Detroit as my jumping off point to explore. It was a nice succinct tour of Downtown Detroit’s icons like the Guardian Building, Campus Martius, the Spirit of Detroit plaza to name a few, along with some upcoming plazas and businesses. The tour also included a short ride on the People Mover public transit system to reach some of our stops. Our tour guide was Melissa, and she was well informed and super helpful, stopping to show us local businesses. If it wasn’t for her I probably would never have found out about Shinola and Pewabic pottery (I now plan on taking a workshop with them). She also waited at the end of the tour to give me suggestions for parking and lunch including the Detroit typicals and new restaurants. I also took their book which has been helpful. One thing to note would be, I went in the beginning of November so the city was not teeming with life like most large American cities I’ve been to, but that also means our tour didn’t have to deal with a lot of crowds. Read moreMy niece and I loved the walking tour! Melissa was fantastic and full of energy, personality, and interesting info. It was a well organized and thoughtful tour and I loved that we hopped on the people mover and got to see so much more than a standard walking tour! I've taken a lot of tours in a lot of different cities and Melissa is one of the very best tour guides. She's passionate and loves her city! The tour is a nice overview with glimpses of things to check out in detail later. Take this tour at the beginning of your trip so you have time to explore afterwards.
In the afternoon we also did the Guardian Building tour and some local friends joined us. Lorrie was super knowledgeable and also fantastic. My local friends were so impressed by a building they previously knew very little about. This is really a tour that everyone will enjoy, whether you're in Detroit for a day or a life-long resident. The details about the Guardian...
