Downtown Detroit Has Leveled Up Big Time 👌

My niece and I loved the walking tour! Melissa was fantastic and full of energy, personality, and interesting info. It was a well organized and thoughtful tour and I loved that we hopped on the people mover and got to see so much more than a standard walking tour! I've taken a lot of tours in a lot of different cities and Melissa is one of the very best tour guides. She's passionate and loves her city! The tour is a nice overview with glimpses of things to check out in detail later. Take this tour at the beginning of your trip so you have time to explore afterwards. In the afternoon we also did the Guardian Building tour and some local friends joined us. Lorrie was super knowledgeable and also fantastic. My local friends were so impressed by a building they previously knew very little about. This is really a tour that everyone will enjoy, whether you're in Detroit for a day or a life-long resident. The details about the Guardian are impressive!

We ended up having Davy to ourselves yesterday morning and were able to ask all the questions. Tell us about what led to the City’s bankruptcy. How did Detroit come back? Who is revitalizing downtown? Where are Underground Railroad sites in the region? Having never been to Detroit, we were both excited to learn history of this great city. I feel fortunate Davy was our guide. He majored in history, has been giving tours for six+ years, and grew up in Detroit. Davy’s tour educated us and increased our affection for this city and its beautiful buildings and people. Excellent tour!

It was my first time to downtown Detroit so I chose City Tour Detroit as my jumping off point to explore. It was a nice succinct tour of Downtown Detroit’s icons like the Guardian Building, Campus Martius, the Spirit of Detroit plaza to name a few, along with some upcoming plazas and businesses. The tour also included a short ride on the People Mover public transit system to reach some of our stops. Our tour guide was Melissa, and she was well informed and super helpful, stopping to show us local businesses. If it wasn’t for her I probably would never have found out about Shinola and Pewabic pottery (I now plan on taking a workshop with them). She also waited at the end of the tour to give me suggestions for parking and lunch including the Detroit typicals and new restaurants. I also took their book which has been helpful. One thing to note would be, I went in the beginning of November so the city was not teeming with life like most large American cities I’ve been to, but that also means our tour didn’t have to deal with a lot of crowds. I’m guessing it would be a more active city in the summer or around the holidays. All in all it was nice tour especially if you’re new to Detroit, would...

Cold winter day Cabin fever.

The cure was touring the Guardian building.

If you've never acted like a tourist in your own home town, give it a whirl.

Fun Informative Simply beautiful and very well maintained.

Lori a retired teacher was our guide. Knowledgeable and a voice that projected nicely.

The vaults in the basement and the panaromic views from the 32 floor stole the show.

Due to the single digit temps 8° We were not able to go outside for a view.

Beyond the architecture of this building, and yes it is a gem. The panaromic view from the 32 floor to the North GM world HQ South Ambassador Bridge & The Gordie Howe Bridge

Canada Look far left and see Ford Field and Greektown

On this cool crisp clear day you could even see the tall building at 9 & Jefferson.

We parked in the Buhl building 25 yards away. It is unstaffed Make sure you scan the QR parking code. $5 an hour on weekends Or The fine print mentions a $100 ticket.

Go...
