Honest John's — Restaurant in Detroit

Try to place a order 30 minutes ago they wouldn't take my order over the phone because I request for them to cook my fries last so they will be freshly hot when I get there, however I'm assuming maybe I was talking to the manager that I talked to which told me he's not taking my order over the phone to come in. And I said I just want to place my order over the phone so I don't have to wait and I can just pick up my food. He told me he's not taking it over the phone because he always give me free food, I say you must mistaken me for someone else, that I promise you you never gave me free food and I come to your restaurant often and I always had to pay. He said we always have to give you free food because you complain and we have to give you free food. I said that is so far from the truth. He told me he not taking my older over the phone for me to come in. I wasn't no more than 12 minutes away because I was already driving that way, so I came in. I recognize the man's voice that was over the phone and asked him do have time to talk to me he told me no that he's not going to make time and I can leave, when he told me to come in to place my order. Which did nothing but frustrated me of me wasting gas along with he didn't want to take the time to hear me out. Then I told him to ask your servers I always pay for my food and he was like I don't have to ask my server I can ask the bartender and she replied baby I've been here for many years and we always have to remake your food and give you free food. I said not true at all and I'm not your baby. I even asked him can I come back another time and show you my bank statements that you ain't never ever gave me no free food and I said I have receipts in my purse from restaurants I constantly go to that cost much more than what you charge and I go there often and I never have got any free food. I did tell him it may been once maybe a big 2 times that you had to remake my fries through the years. And I asked him also if you are willing for me to come back and show you bank statements that I have always paid you and you ain't never gave me no free food along with telling him to look at your receipts for going back how many months they can along with cameras just to prove him wrong he said no, we blocked you and that's why you always going to voicemail so I'm thinking in my head there have been times where I called and been hung up on also which is very rude and nasty. And I told him you all have definitely mistaken me for somebody else just because I requested for you to cook my fries last so they could be freshly hot when I'm not too far from you no more than 15 minutes so when I get to your restaurant I don't have to wait. He stated that you came here last time checking your food and and we had to remake everything I said no that isn't true. It been times where you all charged me for something and forgot to put it in my back and you had to go in the back and get it or cook it then but you never had to remake anything the last time I was here all the time before that or that. And I told him so your establishment have a problem of me checking my food to make sure I have everything along with my food being hot. He said no but we have to make your food each and every time and give you free food. So I want you to know we block you and you need to leave. I said wow to just because you have a problem of me asking for hot fries I laugh to myself. He told me I'm banned don't come back, with I'm fine with that. The only problem I have he was less than a adult along with his bartender to have his facts straight when I was willing to even show him that he was wrong of him being. unfortunately my first time at honest John’s was not the best. being my first time here I was super excited to try it as I heard great things. I immediately ran to the bathroom as I needed to use it. No one was there to assist us as we walked in. my partner sat at the bar waiting for me - he ordered a ginger ale while ordering he also tried placing an alcoholic beverage for me but was interrupted and told he couldn’t unless if I were present. we are well both over the age of 21. as I proceeded to walk towards the bar I saw my partner going towards a drink he thought was his and he realized it wasn’t his. the bartender scheduled gave him the stank eye which I happened to catch walking towards him. A minor mistake which didn’t have any ill intent. after this interaction - she proceeded to tell us we could sit wherever we want. We chose to sit at a booth closer to the entrance. Once we settled down - she came over to let us know that we had to leave because I had a bikini top on and she couldn’t serve me because of it. instead of letting me know that they had a dress code policy she firmly stated and pointed out that because I had a bikini top on i couldn’t be served and I needed to leave. (mind you after already seeing me at the bar). my boyfriend and I left after that scene. Following up to this interaction - a regular customer happened to come up to our car and stated that this was a norm. when it came to this specific bar tender. he stated that every other bartender at this bar and restaurant is great and there are never any complaints. I am severely sad to be treated the way I was - although I understand the dress code policies the approach was extremely disappointing, disturbing, and filled with animosity. I honestly will not be returning to honest John’s in the future. Food - did not even get to try...

We went for a party of 6. There is a note on the menus that party of 6 or more is a 20% gratuity and only one check. Nothing worse than that as you are now stuck with subpar service because they are getting 20% regardless. I tip 35% when service is attentive so this always disappoints me when the server doesn’t check on the table once yet gets $30 to take an order.

Took forever for our waitress to come take our order. Someone else brought 2 of the 3 cocktails and we had to ask someone else to bring the other one after 10 min passed. 25 min after ordering someone came to tell us one of the dishes (corn beef hash) was sold out so our friend ordered something else ( a BLT). The food came in waves and one person ordered chili fries no cheese and cheeses was in it. She sent it back and got what she ordered. All of a sudden all plates were served and the one that ordered the corn beef hash and had to order something else was served her corn beef hash. Surprised with that. We weren’t checked on. Had to flag down the waitress for water refill. There was no butter on the table or offered for the toast and waffles. We couldn’t ask for it because hardly anyone served the table. Upon leaving, we noticed all the other tables were provided butter.

Bill came and I paid. I should have looked over the receipt more but I didn’t. I paid 185$. I get home and realized I was charged for the cheese on the chili fries AND for the substituted item (BLT) that we never got. I ended up paying over $16 for things we did not get and we were not given decent service.
