I’m only in Detroit for a couple days, and as a deep dish lover, from another mother state, That makes his own. I was sad I didn’t get a layover in Chicago. Tonight I tried various Chinese places for lo mein. I just didn’t want the 8$ added fees. Some locals recommended shields as well as their decent reviews. And I sat thinking with a belly full of wine, I should try a Detroit style. Well, I called. Talked a bit with the guy. Apparently, our frozen pizzas advertise Detroit style quite differently than these guys make it. Its a pan crust that doesn’t rise. Cheese on the bottom. Healthy servings. And sauce on top. It’s basically deep dish, pan crust pizza. N they make their own sauce. My first bite was fruity of tomato, and a light sweetness. I ordered extra sauce. It’s taken me 8 years to learn to make a red sauce well. So I get excited to try this sort of stuff. I wanted more sauce. But as I bit into the slice. It thickened and became too sweet for me. Which is a result of less spread and less thickening during baking. . The sausage is probably mass produced but is still of rich fennel flavor and heat. There was less pepperoni on the meat lovers. Lots of ham. Charred well, a nice flavor. And the bacon was balanced. So it’s a ham oriented flavor over all. For the meat lovers.
The only issues I think need resolved. Is balancing the oil and fat contents. Lowering them. To really bring out the sauce. But let’s be honest. We all want perfect tomato sauce everytime. You just can’t get that. That’s why you need compensating flavors. . And for a fair price, I didn’t finish the pizza, where I can eat a large dominos... . I’d choose this over dominos now... if I were here more..
Just gotta make it a little healthier, bring out the flavors and it’s really good stuff. If possible, more tomato than sweetness in the sauce, which is difficult to achieve... I’d definitely recommend it to others. Was not disappointed. But I need a...
Read moreOur first time here was last night. First impression was great, great scenery, karaoke was a blast, drinks were good, and the waitress was amazing. She was always there to make sure we got what we needed. At the end of the night after karaoke we were getting ready to go...everyone was up with their jackets on. We were having fun and saying our goodbyes as we were leaving, we went to grab our boxed-up food which wasnt on the table anymore. We asked our waitress about the food and she said she had just seen it on the table, she asked the manager which he then said it was thrown away. He acted as if he didnt care that a whole sandwich and a large pizza was wasted. that's well over $35 worth of food wasted. "Anything left on the table gets thrown out" his words. Even though we were still there and still in the vicinity of our table. He wasnt apologetic at all and basically said it is what it is. He couldve atleast offered our next large pizza at a discounted price ( like 15 or 20% off..nothing to crazy, not looking for any free handouts) but nothing at all. I was having a great time here and left highly disappointed. Not sure if ill return.
Update 10/22/24: In response to the "Owners" reply.
I think you may have me confused with people who actually chose to stay to converse with the DJ. I walked out the door at 10:12 after you read the time off. So in regard to the others that chose to stay an extra 40 minutes, that has nothing to do with me or why my food (which in fact was boxed up) was thrown away. Some owner this place has. I'm sure they offer management and sensitivity training, which I would in fact suggest you look into if you want to continue running the establishment because that with that mindset it surely doesn't look like a promising future. You stated someone else grabbed the food which no one did, and you did not say this when questioned. You said "It was tossed, there's nothing we can do" no empathy whatsoever....
Read moreWhen I first arrived the atmosphere was wonderful. However, as the party arrived 22 ppl, and some of our party began to order, things changed quickly! One of our guests complained about her food being dry , heated in the microwave and just plain ole not good. The manager Jason was quite rude by saying “I’ve already went above and beyond for this party “ but… not yet had anyone had food, she was the 1st to order( so she had choice words with him). As the tables began to be served, the food was coming out sporadically, ( ex. I ordered a salad and plain wings with sauce on the side) things worsened. 40 minutes later I received my salad with no wings and no soda. 20 minutes later I inquired about the wings and the drink, I was told it was coming, it did 20 more minutes later. I then went to talk with Jason, calmly and patiently ( the place was filling up) . I was then told , “ it’s not my fault that you all have a party of 30 and not the 14 I was told ( but it was 22 ppl) . Just plain rude! Because guess what Jason, we still had to pay gratuity AND deal with your rudeness! Lastly, if you want cardboard tasting food and rude service, then this is the place for you. Photos of rude manager, my bill and my cardboard tasting wings. BTW, this is the Detroit Shields.
Edit… See the response from Jason! Cause what he’s going to do, is get a he last word ( that is exaggerated) to make his point. Simply because he’s rude! Notice he didn’t dispute his rudeness or the taste of the food .But what I won’t do is go back and forth because use his 29 or my 22 , many dollars were spent (with automatic gratuity) and my family will never return! And guess what Jason, word of mouth from your patrons can be detrimental to your establishment. All I’m asking is for you to simply be kind ! And please put some seasoning on those cardboard...
