Last Saturday was my birthday and I decided to break my birthday tradition of doing hibachi with my family. Some of us had been to Christopher's, with a party of 10, in February but were in a rush, due to an event, so I didn't get to try as many things on the menu as I wanted to. I was really looking forward to going back, as many items were right up my alley.
There were a total of 6 of us, with a tab totaling $296. Unfortunately, we were incredibly disappointed in the food, but not nearly as much as we were with the service.
We had made a reservation and most of us were running late, so the first in our party to arrive shared this information and offered to sit at the bar and wait for a table when we arrived. The server insisted it wasn't a problem to sit at the table and order a drink, to which the member of our party that was there, even texted the rest of us saying that the waitress was great and accommodating, so that we didn't need to stress about running behind schedule.
I'm not sure what changed when we arrived, but the dirty looks and attitude immediately ensued. After this was mentioned by other members of our party, I apologized to the server in the event we had been an inconvenience in any way, and asked her what her name was, as I don't believe it had been given previously. Throughout the night, we were sure to be extra appreciative, thank her each time she was at the table and call her by her name, Sam. Everyone at our table has significant respect for servers, as many of us have been in the industry ourselves, but we were also raised to be considerate.
The eye rolls, dirty looks and rude service did not stop, no matter how kind and thankful we were. Unfortunately, the food was subpar, and the steaks that were ordered by 2 members of our party, were flavorless and disappointing. Instead of mentioning this or asking for any replacements, we all ate our food as we did not want to upset Sam further.
After receiving the bill, I promptly paid and the rest of the party left. It was closing, so the restaurant had emptied at this point, but I did not see Sam anywhere in sight. After waiting for a little bit, I went up and asked the bartender if I could speak with Sam. Unfortunately, she was incredibly dismissive and it seemed as if I was a nuisance... it was clear that Sam had spoken negatively about me or about our table. There is no way to explain it, other than that I felt like the uncool kid being bullied by the cliquey popular girls.
When Sam returned to the table, reluctantly, upon my request, I very carefully explained our experience to her. I shared that i specifically paid the bill, in good faith that I wasn't looking for anything for free. I wanted to let her know that we had felt as if she had been giving us dirty looks and was less than professional, making us very uncomfortable, along with our disappointment in the food. I treaded lightly, but she continued to be dismissive, rude and showed no signs of care when I was sharing the table's concerns. Her responses were short, if any, non apologetic, and honestly snobby.
I had yet to leave a tip on the bill, as I was hoping she would have been receptive to our concerns and feedback. We tend to be a very appreciative party and we had every intention to leave well above 20%, but I wanted to clear the air first. Unfortunately, that goal was not achieved, but I was still sure to leave a $60 tip.
Due to this experience, we will not be returning to Christopher's, nor will we be recommending it.
In summary, we not only were disappointed with the food, we were treated very poorly by our server, and she had clearly spoken about us to other staff, who took on the...
Read moreThe food was good and reasonably price so I at first hesitated with my 1 star review. But unfortunately the service was absolutely horrible and the best of foods wouldn't have help salvage our experience.
After being seated at a high top near the bar we sat for what seemed like forever before our waitress even came to greet us. That was after another waitress yelled to her she had customers ( she was sitting near the ladies room with another waitress chatting ).
It only went down hill from there. The social hour now moved to the bar area where she was more interested in chatting with the regulars about their vacation plans then she was in helping us. After deciding on our meals and with menus down on the table we waited for ever for her to come over and take our order. What kills me is that at All times she was no more then 6 feet from us.
So when our food finally gets delivered my wife's beer glass is now empty and she never asks if she wants another ( please see my photo). Well after about 5 minutes we catch her eye and request another beer for my wife. Get ready now because here comes the last straw. After forever chit-chat with the bar patrons she finally starts to head over with our beer only to stop halfway to us with beer in hand to chat with a patron at the bar. You guessed it, the same wait for her to come and retrieve our tab so we could pay, mind you we were sitting there the whole time with empty beer glasses so she wasn't giving us time to finish our drinks.
Sorry for the low review, the food was good and the place has a nice warm atmosphere, but I felt like I our waitress social hour was way more important to her...
Read moreOne Saturday evening a few days after Christmas my husband, daughter and I decided we had had enough of eating in, so I summoned on-line advice for restaurant suggestions in our area. Christopher’s Third Street Grill in Dover popped up as a promising choice, so we decided to give it a go. The restaurant itself is physically unassuming, as I’ve been to downtown Dover many times and I do not remember ever noticing it. That said, this hidden gem is worth finding. I liked that the quiet dining room is separate from the bar area, so that diners are not subject to TV screens flashing sports scenes as is the case in so many bar/restaurants. The menu offers a surprisingly vast variety, in addition to specials of the day. We started with Bruschetta, which was fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. My large Greek salad was most enjoyable, fresh and lightly dressed. Hubby’s Seafood Casserole was pleasingly lite compared to some he’s tasted, with the only downsides being that there was much more fish than shrimp or scallop, and the shrimp was slightly overcooked. My daughter loved her macaroni & cheese dish, which was bowtie pasta in a deliciously creamy and smooth cheese sauce topped with a sprinkle of bread crumbs. You can be sure we’ll be back to...
